We used equijewel on our mare - she was competing at multi day shows at the time and still growing outwards at 6, so would drop off weight in the show season. It kept condition on her very well although I would agree it is expensive and we didn't use it in the winter.
More recently I've used...
Pikeur used to do one called the Diana that was longer...not cheap but very good quality; you might find one on ebay.
I also had a lovely one made by Barbour but as I'm short in the body it was just a tiny bit too long. Great shame because it was beautiful lightweight wool.
My friend lives in a similar area to Rollin, ...she moved out there with her partner a couple of years ago. The horses live out year round and the soil is fairly sandy although they had a horrendously wet winter the first year they were there. They bought a house that didn't need any work, and...
Another 'never again' - not seen any research documented by my experience would suggest that either the cribbing or the ulcers that may or may not be behind it weaken the horse's immune system - when we realised that mine was a cribber at the age of 3, my trainer strongly recommended selling him...
Yes - a farmer that I interviewed about his combine told me the straw was pink. They sell their straw to a big merchant who ships it to livestock farmers in Wales and the merchant wasn't worried about the pink tinge.
Yes, yes and yes!
Had exactly the same with my quarter horse..he was 16hh with massive shoulders and did weird damage to rugs or got rubbed by them.
The Rambo optimo is expensive but they are great quality and last really well..I bought one second hand and he wore it for 2 years out 24/7 as he...
Have a T6 and that would probably be my only criticism, the flaps do curl up, especially in hot weather, plus the inside of long leather boots can stick to them. Ariat Bromont type boots with the suede on the inside are fine. They are good, lightweight saddles and easy to adjust for a decent...
We did quite a bit of indoor trec with our QH mare because she wasn't a great hack but liked a bit of a variety outside the show season! We did it for fun, and thus didn't take it too personally that some of their rules and methods were different from what we would do - such as being in front of...
Sizing might be an issue with some things as another poster has said. I bought a lunging roller from them - size large - and although it fitted my 16hh QH (who was quite small around the girth - 46in on a GP saddle) it didn't offer much adjustment, especially with a decent pad underneath...
Agree - I'm closely involved with team chasing and lots of horses will come out of racing to start team chasing within the next 6-12 months. BUT the people that have them are generally very experienced with racehorses, have often worked in the industry and generally treat them in a similar way...
To be honest, when they have been in training they often need a break to get used to being in a different environment before you start work with them, especially one as young as this. Once you've got basic handling rules established - and you could do some groundwork in the meantime to help with...
The yard i kept my horse at a few years back had a couple of horses that they loaned to the Sealed Knot (we're near Edgehill so re-enactments are big locally). The horses were hunter hirelings, their riders were guys that had ridden as children but only got on a horse as adults for battles :D...
It's always based on weight but if they are friendly at your local post office and you go at a quiet time of day (ie not lunchtime!) they would probably weight it for you and give you a quote. I've just sent two pairs of jeans to someone weighing 1.3kg and the cost for first class recorded...
Definitely worth a chat emphasising the safety of their horses as well - near to us the bridleway has been diverted about three times as the farmer has 'diversified' adding holiday cottages and a campsite; it now runs through a paddock with ponies in. I don't currently ride on it but when out...
Lots of tractor options - worth having a chat with your local ag dealer to see what might be coming in, especially if he has a groundcare division - now's a good time to buy as councils get their budgets and may be part exchanging older kit. MF and Ford tractors are quite collectable to may be...
