    Sundown yellow allergy?

So we changed our old TB to Sundown Yellow as it was a bit softer than the Snowflake Softchip we had used for years and was trying to help his arthritic hocks! He started to lose hair on the legs that were closer to the bedding when he laid down and on his elbows and tummy. Swapped back to...

    House cleaning!

Cleaners round here - Lincs/Leicestershire border charge between £15/£20 per hour….and most of them have a waiting list. Minimum wage is over £11 per hour now and they are self-employed so doubt anyone would work for less than £15. Cleaners are highly underpaid and under-rated.

    Silver Whinny’s

vetting my own horse before advertising

We were sending ours to sales livery to sell as rider and pony had fallen out of love with each other. Wanted to check there was nothing sinister going on and he would potentially pass a vetting as didn’t want to pay for a few weeks of sales livery for him then to fail. He was 11 and we had...

What’s everyone feeding now Pure Feeds have gone?

Am feeding Graze on Original, cool cubes, unmollasssed sugar beet and micronised linseed. He LOVES the Graze as does his cushings diagnosed friend. Mine can’t have alfalfa either. Sugar is slightly higher than I would usually choose but the palatability out weighs this.

What’s everyone feeding now Pure Feeds have gone?

I sadly can‘t take a chance on supplies. Have changed my old boys food and he loves what he’s having now. More importantly it’s easy to get hold of so I can’t see myself changing back to Pure sadly. Love the ethos, horse loved the food but wallet loves what he’s getting now.

What’s everyone feeding now Pure Feeds have gone?

Graze on original, equiglo unmollassed sugar beet, micronised linseed and cool cubes. I favour a low sugar, low starch diet for my old tb.Was feeding pure veteran pellets and pure balance but can’t get hold of any more. Am looking for some sort of gut balancer but thinking (hoping) that the...

Anyone else swapped feeds for cost purposes and found their horses looking healthier?

I swapped after Pure went into administration and couldn’t get the PurE Balance and Pure Veteran pellets. Now on Graze on original, unmollassed sugar beet, cool cubes and micronised linseed. He’s an old TB, unclipped and in at night, rugged well as he feels the cold. Ad lib good haylage...

Costs of lorry / trailer own / hire

Think about the cost of having your own vs self drive hire. We did the sums and for 2 outings a month it was cheaper to hire taking into account the cost of buying and running a 3.5t lorry. We are incredibly lucky that our YO has a fleet of 3 self drive available. We couldn’t afford to buy...

Experience of loaning out horse/pony or a bit of a wwyd

I have loaned and we kept him from 17 till he was pts at 24. He was treated like he was ours and wanted for nothing. I am sad when I see loaning horror stories as there are good loaners out there. You just need to be very careful and make very regular checks till you are sure they are ok.

    A little rant!

I was helping a friend at a dressage comp and as she rode down the centre line to start her test the hunt appeared in the next field - hounds, hunt staff and all the followers. Her test was a little tense! Same friend was doing the dressage phase of a ODE at a venue that was also a green...
