Bought a young horse back in Feb 2011 in very poor condition. It had this skin complaint on neck, I was palmed off with rainscald (I instantly didn't buy it!) - but I still went ahead and bought the horse!
Nearly 4mths on and it is still present. Initially taking a relaxed perspective vet...
Hi I think it's stress or anxiety related because her shoulder muscles will often but not always quiver/shake at feeding times and occasioanlly at other times she may consider 'anxious'.
The last time she broke out in a histamine reaction was when she had an electrode back massage. Was a...
Has anyone seen or know of a horse suffering from such effects?
My mare broke out in a histamine like reaction all down her right hand side today, and her shoulder muscle was quivering and I don't understand why.
It was as if she was having an anxiety attack??!
She was in her stable while I...
Definately take out in hand, that is perfectly ok to do so provided.. He has ground manners in general as in respect to you and your handling and that you take him out on a minimum 12ft line or a lunge line. NOT in a standard length lead rope that is asking fro trouble.
The longer the rope the...
I agree with Lucy_Nottingham you get so far and get lazy just when it appears to be disappearing thinking you're on top of it and BAM it's back with avengance!
I have had to battle it all winter. Vet precribed Flammazine, it certainly helped but it was disgustingly expensive
In desperation I...
My partner has been advised he needs 'new knees'! Specialists have suggested it's full or partical replacements and they say that he can continue to 'horse ride'. But as they are not riders themselves their casual 'yes' is a huge bother, because we think that they think you just 'sit' on a...
Hi, you may get better advise from barefoot folk. There are boots, but to get the best out of them apparently is to have them professionally fitted is what I understand
Thankyou all for your answers, most helpful. Kinda goes with how I feel or imagine it would be, so nice to know it's 'one of those' at least.
Mari, she is 7. You'd think old enought to know better and have experience but she's quite a complex madam and has been a slow bring-er-on-er.
We were...
Hope this is the right place to put this.
I hope to show my mare ridden this coming season in hunter classes, ridden and or workers (though she is more of a worker imo). Start off local level as a novice and see how we go (county would be our highest ambition I think if we're lucky)!
But the...
My old mare has occasional nose bleeds, more of a tiny drip than a trickle. She can just get them standing around in field, in the stable, anytime.
She just seems to get them! Have never been a problem nor a reason for a problem.
But saying that nose bleeds shouldn't be ignored. At least...
Oh to add.. she was purchased (prior to me) for dressage, so I often wonder if something has gone wrong or over cooked a young horse there, she would have been 4 and was an Irish import, probably as a 3yo?? she is now turning 7.
Breed unknown, but looks shire x TB , very muscular, not heavy...
Thanks will look into the NAF shake relief.
I think her hocks are ok, she passed a 5* (1yr prior to my purchase, which I saw) and a 2* vet on my purchase, though I fully appreciate this could mean nothing now. I bought in November - winter month hmmm!!
She is much happier and forward going...
