Her bedding has been changed from using cheap shavings to bedmax and the same is still happening. She is only fed Hay when she is in her stable.

My friend has just had very similar problem with her horse.
She started getting swollen legs and little scabs appeared. As she was also experiencing weight loss the vet completed a blood test and her enzymes were extremley high, they then completed the biopsy and she had chronic liver failure...
It must be general practise to sedate as they did this with my friends mare.
She was put to sleep at the horsepital, so they had a tube already in her neck, they then put sedation in walked her out to a little paddock and then put the lethal injection in, she fell to the floor so peacefully...
My friend has just had her mare PTS on Friday :-( by injection. It was so peaceful, she didnt fight it at all and just fell asleep, we then said our goodbyes and left. it was lovely and a very dignified ending for such a wonderful mare.

I am intrigued to know if this is true, my friends pony is in foal and her friend told her to NEVER walk the pony backwards as it can cause the foal to twist and get stuck.
