Pet Plan exclude entire gastro-intestinal system after gastric ulcer claim - fuming

My horse got a scrape just above his eye (off a fence rub i assume) a few years back which swelled up really big. Vet came out, sedated and fully checked his actual eye with dye etc. All fine just a superficial scrape - insurance renewal excluded his eyes totally in any respect. Also excluded...

    Nail Bind Experiences

Thanks guys - it is animalintex I'm currently using. I've got keratex hoof hardner but wary about putting it on whilst there is an opening in his sole so I've give that a miss. Will look into iodine/sugar mixture to disinfect/harden. How long should I expect him to be lame for before becoming...

    Nail Bind Experiences

Thanks - sorry forgot to add it's been dry lintex that I've been putting on since having the shoe pulled off. I've also been soaking in epsom salts, then drying the hoof before applying the new dressing. He was still lame yesterday, will speak to yard manager and see how he is today.

    thoughts on this horse please?

What a shame, I hope she falls into good hands. She reminds me of my TB in the face.

    Nail Bind Experiences

Hi all I've just moved my horse to a grass livery yard so he can live out due to his bone spavins. It's too far out for my regular farrier so I've switched to the farrier that the yard uses. He had his feet done on 27th or 28th I think, and was fine, then was lame a few days later. We...

    turning out for the winter

An update for anyone who is interested :-) I decided to turn him out, found a lovely little place 30 minutes away from me and so far he loves it. He settled straight away when I dropped him off and has been good as gold. It's so odd not seeing him every day but knowing he's not stuck in a...

    Grass livery

Can anyone recommend grass livery/retirement livery in the north west? So far i've seen Copper Beeches in Alderley Edge & Cheshire Retirement livery near Crewe/Betley .. I need somewhere that will check my horse daily & give him his medication. I think the first is full and the second is a...

    turning out for the winter

I only have about £200 left to claim on my policy! Can't believe how quickly it's run out he was only diagnosed in June/July!! Not really in a position to be paying out £900 for alcohol fusion so going to see how his current treatment progresses. I just don't want him to be stuck in his stable...

    turning out for the winter

Hi all I'm toying with the idea of turning my gelding away for the winter for some field rest/a break. This year he has been diagnosed with bone spavin and has so far had cartrophen & tildren and to be honest I haven't really noticed a difference. I'm near my insurance limit & he keeps...

My horse is a walking vet bill

Update on vet bill horse: He is now lame in front. He has also cut (maybe a kick) his near hind near his hock and his hock has ballooned into something massive. Sigh. I too wish this year would just hurry up and end! I'm sick of worrying, it's draining me financially, mentally and physically...

    Cushings in 8 year old

my vet has a horse who was diagnosed at 7 years old. My own horse was 9/nearly 10 when he was diagnosed. With proper management and medication they can live a pretty much normal life. I buy my prascend from animed for 99p a tablet - works out much cheaper than buying from my vets...

My horse is a walking vet bill

So I was loaning a horse in 2013 for 6months and my parents bought him for me as a surprise for my 21st birthday. Only since having ownership of him he has sprouted numerous medical conditions! (typical) In February 2014 he was diagnosed with Cushings disease at age 10. He is now on...

Anyone had a horse & been travelling? What do you do with them?

Hi I'm 22 and I really really want to go travelling, I know 10000% I will regret it if I don't go at some point. But what do I do with my horse? He's an 11 year old 16.3hh thoroughbred with cushings. He's brilliant to hack on the roads, only mildly spooky and only usually at non-spooky...

    Laminitis experiences?

I would test for EMS & Cushings if she is already on a low sugar diet and still has severe lami. My horse was diagnosed with cushings @ 9 years old so no your horse is not too young to have it unfortunately. My vet also told me not to shoe until he was sound as you dont want to be hammering an...
