I would definitely NOT recommend a lurcher if you want to take it hacking with you!! They are bred to hunt and if they spot something they are off, no amount of training will remove that instinct.
This is a really interesting post, thank you for sharing. My 3.5t renault master conversion has a collapsible breast bar across the back. It was one of the no-compromise things on my wish list when I bought it.
I have only had to use it once when the handle (don't ask!) got ripped off the...
Vittoria is a fantastic teacher, strikes the balance between pushing you out of your comfort zone and challenging your horse without overfacing either of you. 100% recommend.
I got an unhandled pony last Saturday. He now has a headcollar on, will stand to be groomed on main part of his body with rope through baler twine (but not fastened so if he did shoot backwards he wouldn't meet any resistance) and will walk around the field on a lungeline. He is very, very nervy...
This is a very Welshie thing and I echo what others are saying. Go and have a look. Someone mentioned it is 5 and should be beyond this but in my experience Welshies are similar to Warmbloods; they physically AND mentally take a long time to grow up so it may well just be testing the boundaries...
Hi all,
Hope you are all ok on this rather miserable autumn day!
So I have decided to move back to the area I lived in for a long time, having come nearer 'home' in the spring and it not being quite right. I have found a part time job doing floristry which I love, rather than something I have...
I think rubber matting at the front sounds most sensible and keeps the cost down.
It sounds like straw may be the best solution after all, if the pee can drain and its being deep littered. Would the wood pellets work in this case? I wonder whether it might compact too much? Same with...
I wouldn't mind at all. I'd expect them to holler if they were coming up behind me to check I knew they were there but that is it.
This is where the hunting field comes into its own for educating horses in manners, patience and expecting the unexpected!!
Hi HHOers,
Sorry, probably the most boring post of all time!!
My new stables have rough stone floors, hardcore rather than cobble. I am trying to think of some options to make them easy to muck out, hygienic and warm. They are large stables (probably 18ft x 16ft) which is great as they...
I use a Harry Dabbs 16.5" jumping saddle (which I love) and Collegiate Convertible dressage saddle (not so much!) on my 14.2hh MW Welsh Sect C/D. Harry Dabbs is amazing, fits both of us beautifully. Collegiate fits her very well (adjustable gullet but never had to change it) but I don't ride...
Completely screwed!
I permanently damaged my shoulders whilst I was grooming and have reduced movement particularly on the right. Bad lower back. Unlevel and rotated hips (whatever that means). All related. Tried all sorts- none of it sorts it out long term. Basically a doddery old woman at 30!!
Hi,
I have a 3.5t Renault master conversion. The internal height in mine is just over 7ft (Ifor Williams HB510 is 7ft 6) and stalls are approx. the same length and width as a trailer. I wouldn't travel a huge horse in mine but an average size 16.2hh would be fine. I also have a good payload on...
