I used paper bedding on my last horse and used it in racing and love it! Its dust free, doesn't end up smelly, is a warm bed and soft to snuggle into for them. Quick to muck out too! My last horse had been tied back so dust was a major issue, as he was more susceptible to infection. This was...
I've had a couple of you recommend Nupafeed on this post, having never heard of it before i have just read through their site and their testimonials and it sounds like a lot of people with difficult ex-racehorses/TB's have had fab results with it.
So thanks everyone, I shall give this one a go...
Thanks, there are so many out there and it definitely seems to be a case, of "What works for one might not work for another".
I'll give on of the above a go and see what happens!
I tend to get mine washed and reproofed and then still apply another coat of waterproofer myself. Lincolns seemed to do the trick last winter and my horse was out 24/7 in the wet. No soggy pony.
Once you wash any rug they are never as good.
I like the buggering off to Thailand option!
Oh well, back to reality and so looking forward to my alarm going going off at 5am tomorrow! Its now still fairly dark when i chuck him in the field at 7am after exercise.....
I have my 4yr old TB on alphabeet and he does well on it, i do also feed baileys stud balancer and alpha-a with it. keeps good weight on. Its a high fibre no sugar feed, so you get the benefits of condition without the whizzz. When he does more work and the grass becomes less rich i add a 1/4...
I spent the whole of last winter renting a field with no lighting, one tap and no hard standing either! Looking forward to this winter as i am now in a nice livery yard with indoor school, lights galore and concrete everywhere - no mud to tack up in!
All i can say is thank god for head torches...
I have used shavings, straw, aubiose and newspaper and my favourite is paper. Its dust free, they don't eat it, it absorbs the wee well and you can just pick the poo out. Had some very messy horses on paper and it was much easier than shavings and straw. Plus it's cheap and rots down quickly.
If your horses are sweating that much when worked i would go ahead and clip them, like others have said you don't have to take it all off, just take off the problem areas. I have always kept TB's out all winter, fully clipped but well rugged. As long as you replace the fur with rugs then they...
The WAHL dog/horse grooming trimmers are really good, used them on my TB who was unltra sensitive along his shoulder, girth and armpits and he went to sleep when i tidied up with these trimmers. The other great thing was it clipped as close as my lister clippers so there was no difference...
I've not used Liveryman Rocket clippers myself, but i do have the Lister Neon clippers and they are great! They are pretty quiet, light weight and run really well, always giving a good clip even with blades that are due for sharpening.
I've clipped 3 or 4 horses in a row and they've handled it...
I have always insured with Scottish Equestrian and they have always come back at the best cost (having had a broker look at the market for me). I know they pay out as i had my last horse out down due to a horrid accident and they paid everything i claimed for, with no queries. Value of horse...
Boo loves being out and is just as happy being in, loves other horse company (just wants to be friends with everyone). Its when there is alot going on that he can't cope and that is getting better, but when he does flip, there is nothing i can do to calm him he doesn't even register my...
Hi, Where abouts are you based? I have just moved up to the Chippenham area. I am an experienced clipper - having worked in point to point racing and eventing. Not phased by working with difficult horses.
If you need clipping help this winter drop me an email and we can go from there. My...
I have a 4 year old TB (ex-flat race horse) who moved yards about 5 weeks ago and although he is slowly adjusting to the new, busier yard and improving all the time he still lacks the ability to stay calm in new scenarios. He tends to go from dope on a rope to stuck to the ceiling in a heart...
