Thanks Mike, I dont know him personally, he advertised online last week and I responded. If he's been turning it all day I'm inclined to think its probably fine, the rain stopped here about 7am but its a lot of work to pick up that much hay off the field if its all just going to rot if you know...
I'm supposed to be picking up some hay off the field tomorrow but the farmer has just messaged me to ask if we can collect it tonight. I asked him if he'd not had rain last night as we did (He is 20 minutes drive away) and he said yes he did but he's been turning it all day and is looking to...
Hi all, we have a pony who we've had three years. He has always had the odd fly bite that itches - it isnt sweet itch, we have another with SI and their symptoms are different. This pony is allergic to horse fly bites.
This year, for whatever reason he has a lot more bites than he has had in...
Couldn't agree more. We rested our fields all winter and just had an acre trash paddock that's nothing but mud (albeit hard mud now in most places), but theres an awful a lot of seed in this last batch of hay so I thought if we feed it on the ground they will probably tread a lot of it in and...
Hello all,
Been ages since I've posted but found myself walking up the fields last night on terra firma instead of terra soggy.
Made me wonder how long before the grass starts to come through again, and whether its going to get wetter before it improves. We put ditches in before winter...
I hate to say it but it can be overdosed. Long term use prevents calcium absorption and as such shouldn't be used all year round. Vet advised me to stop using in winter, and start again before the spring grass comes through.
We bought a little section A x Arab, 11.2hh a few months back and he's out with the herd. Including him we have three geldings and one Shetland mare. She has been in season several times this year and to my knowledge he hasn't ever shown an interest in her. He's a 5yr old, very immature and very...
Thanks folks, he has a very thin, fine tail and a no fill tail flap. We dont treat our horses very often because one is prone to laminitis.
We feed hay, no haylage for him and i dont think it's pinworm as that tends to be rubbing sores rather than pinprick. We have the vet due next monday so...
Hi folks my little chap has a rash under his tail/around his bum. It's like pinhead sized scabs like they have with lice bites. He had lice a few months back although we did clip him and treated with coopers and powder (battles powder which actually kills lice) every week for a month so pretty...
My little Shetland mare was backed at the age of 15. Long story but we bought her as been everywhere done everything, put her on working livery only to find later that she'd been given free to a good home a few days before I bought her. Unbacked, never seen traffic or children and never been...
Our fields are clay so the kids ride on the yard maybe once a week and short hack at weekends. They're only 3 and 4 so no pressure! When i was a kid we had no facility to do this so my pony went out weekends only.
The days are getting longer since christmas and for the first time in a long...
My late cut appy used to be a nightmare for the exact same reason. He would jump the fence to get in with neighbours, batter anything that wasnt a mare then back into his own paddock. he'd open gates and bring himself in at a flat out gallop screaming his head off, ploughing through anyone or...
Where did she come from? I sold a mare named Darcy (16.2hh irish sport horse) to a lady over Derby way around 2006, she was a lovely bay, green as grass with a nice big buck in her on the rare occasion it suited!
The story of how i came to own her raised a few brows but as i only had her a...
Not confirmed the same as yet, will speak to the lady on passport this evening in more detail and the seller also.
He has white socks and a big star and she has pictures etc so will compare those when i get home, and if it isnt him will have to get vet out to scan the microchip. Maybe apply...
