    Horse Kicking other at show

Same as BB - as the rider of a confirmed kicker, I make damn sure that I keep her out of the way of others as much as possible! She wears a BIG red ribbon, that cannot be missed and is reprimanded for so much as lifting a hind leg at another horse. (Although I must admit, she hasn't kicked...

    Bit of a rant

Jess we used just a sign saying "theftproof paint in use on straw" - seemed to work :D but yeah the straw theft is so annoying and our haylage was also going - it's now having to be padlocked up and our feed is all locked away - it's stupid we have to do it. Our side of the farm is better :D...

    Ticks

Just please don't cover them in Vaseline.... It makes them panic and regurgitate all their hind gut contents into the host, which may include any number of blood borne nasties :( We haven't seen any yet in Scotland. Still a bit cold and wet for them though!! K x

    PLEASE HELP! Straw eating monster!

Haha thanks for the replies! :D I'd never put anything on it to put them off 'cause whilst Pebbles would probably turn her nose up, Kelly would just eat and eat and she's got enough problems at it is ;) ;) We do like having them on straw, I'll try mixing the bed in with some of the 'old'...

    PLEASE HELP! Straw eating monster!

We are putting a new bale of straw down every day for both our horses and as you can imagine, it's getting expensive!! :( The minute we put it down, they're both nose deep, munching away. One is on hay and the other on haylage - both eat their nets eventually, but don't finish it...

Worst people you've had turn up for a loan/share...

I'm a sharer :D have been with the same lady for nearly 12 years now so must be doing something right! I came fresh from a riding school, having never even mucked out or ridden on the roads and now am schooling a beautifully talented ISH and riding a very fresh 17 year old with Cushings and I...

    awkward situation with loaner

As a sharer, I'd be mortified. I think this sort of treatment would probably put me off ever sharing again. A text message after the winter and summer we've had (and I am in her position, I have shared over all the horrid weather etc!) just isn't acceptable. I understand its your horse etc...

What are the advantages of having a loaner/sharer?

As a sharer (I pay nothing anymore as owner refuses to let me pay - I try and pay for feed/shoes when I can if I can get to farrier/shop before her! ;) ) I do all the jobs - such as today, owner cannot make it down this morning, so I'll muck out both horses, bed down, do hay and haylage nets...

Anyone else up there?? I'll be feeling pretty out of sorts and lonely!! :o:(:o:o:rolleyes: I'm starting a PhD at Moredun/Edinburgh Vet School sometime in the next couple of months :eek::eek::eek: (I've never been so far up North before! But it's an incredible opportunity so I have to...

    Equine-related degrees or vet medicine

I did Biovet Science with the plan of going into Vet Med after I graduated - I'm the opposite now, I am glad that things didn't go as I planned :o I graduated and am now working in research. Things are very bad in the job world as it is, but after a good long chat with a few vets, it seems...

    Sarcoids advice wanted- Liverpool cream?

My share owners other horse (if that makes sense!) had a sarcoid on her hind leg and the liverpool cream was used - the vet had to come out every day to put it on and I can't remember exactly what happened except that it did work. Unfortunately she's now got another one which we think will be...
