Bit of a long shot but approx 15 years ago there was a lovely (ancient) little grey pony called Dooley at Margaret Headly's riding stable In Sunniside near Willington, County Durham.
I remember he was very much loved by the children learning to ride but was terrified of black bags.
When we were in France, paid a visit to Palace of Versailles (sorry about spelling, French was never a strong point of mine), the carriage horses were not wearing the ridiculous contraption pictured in the above link. They had quite simple slings running from behind the breetching towards the...
If you want a good saddle go for an Eric Swaine (?not too sure how you spell Swaine). He is the best saddle maker ever!!! Has totally the right idea that the part of the horse that carries your weight is flat not curved like many main brand saddles...No wonder horses get bad backs!

They do get fleas. Yes, you can use frontline. It is not licensed for use. However, is very safe and the manufacturers can provide your vet with a dose rate for the spray (dont use the spot on). I've prescribed it regularly and have had no reports of any problems.

Dogs (and cats) are not...
I think I may know why vet suggested not bandaging. It has been shown that bandaging can weaken ligaments/tendons...so if there is no tear then you dont want to weaken things until the opint where they will tear. That is why we dont reccomend bandaging foals with 'lax tendons'.
