I've got 3, 2 who raced a fair bit (won 50k and 75k) and another who was a bit rubbish (won 900!). They all do hacking up to 30km a day (not every day! Most days half this or less) over varied terrain. I expect them to get me up mountains and back down again without fuss. They also go nicely in...
As Tarrsteps said you shouldn't inject other people's horses (I do but as part of my commuity work on behalf of vets - we live in the sticks and people cant/wont pay a 50 call out charge for a vet to inject horse so either it doesn't get the treatment or I do it)
Also happy to do IV, again...
I don't think anyone said 13 stone = fat, surely the weight limit applies whether you're 13 stone of muscle or 13 stone of fat?
Anyway, glad to hear it was all a misunderstanding, makes sense that riding centres dictate their own weight limit dependant on their horses.
I am going through similar with one of mine. The turning round and walking backwards trick doesn't work, he will then rear for sure. Sometimes he will follow another horse, but if he really doesn't want to go will plant and try to spin/rear. Kicking/stick = run backwards. Only thing I can do is...
Have done survey but I didn't quite understand the questions about how many horse you buy and sell. I picked 'less than 1 year' because the other responses didn't make sense. In any case I buy/sell more than 1 horse per year but the exact number changes every year.
Definitely possible and loads of fun! We will be doing something similar all the summer (while driving herds of cattle or horses), can't wait! I would say that having someone come to meet you in the car with your gear is a great idea and helps keep stress levels down, especially if you've got...
BHS has online template for loans, you can change details to make them relevant to you.
Make sure you take copies of their documents, proof of identity and address if it's not someone you know personally.
He looks great to me. My haffies live on thin air too, but muscle up really well when in regular work. Obviously now they are hairy muddy hippos :D
I love apple bum haffies, it's where I got my logo inspiration from (avatar, but you prob cant see it so well as is small)
Remember there is a big difference between running a yard and running a business. Look at it as a business first, can you make a living from it? Be honest with yourself and get the figures right, don't guess! Running a business with horses can also mean hard decisions, especially if it goes...
I have a 14h haffy, medium-fine build ('Willie' lines) and weighs about 350kg. I put a max of 70kg on her (approx 11 stone) and she can make 6 hour rides up and down mountains every day and still be trotting home for her tea! I think if I put 14 stone on her she would suffer, if not the first...
My TB taught me that a horse can literally cut it's leg open on thin air. Not even joking!
At uni I was told that horses can't burp, I found that fascinating but since then I've heard people say their horse DOES burp, so now I feel I've been lied to :(
I get what you're saying Dee, but this is much more than grooms job, and I do need someonewho can be the face of the business if you like, greeting guests, taking bookings, handling cash, ordering etc. Hence why I made it very specific how I wanted them to apply.
Tbh though the 'brusqueness'...
