I would go for nice (BROWN) driving gloves, or a nice apron in a green/navy colour (£35-50ish) Does she have her own driving horse? If you REALLY want to spend money (£150+) you could get her a lovely whip. Pony & Carriage have Willow whips for £85ish, and Holly (oh I wish) for £250ish. If...
Absolutely 150% correct too. My lurcher came from Orchard House Greyhound Rescue in Tipperary - she is small, a long haired whippet cross, and fabulous. But step on her foot and she'll scream for 5 minutes, and hop around on 3 legs for an hour. Get her injections done at the vet? yup, that's...
I'm so torn with this, having grown my whole life believing that my beloved old lady would be shot by the hunt. She's 26yo now, and still going strong, but when the time comes, I want to be ready. She's not needle phobic, and I would rather be able to think of her like she's gone to sleep, so I...
Moving lots won't kill her. Think of all those top end competition horses - they fly the world competing, and home is where the haynet is. :) I'm really lucky - my mare competed all over the show, and she's moved a LOT - she just takes it all in her stride. I think she's been in 18 yards in 15...
Yup, I'm one of them. and my pony regularly travels alongside my carriage, harness, bales, and other "needs" for a 3 day show. They go in the front of the trailer, he stands behind them, separated by his breast bar and a bale of hay to protect his legs from knocks.
hahaha, oh, fabulous!
At least you got paid!!! We used to have to ride off the dealers lorries, and if we made it to the end of the lesson on one, we'd get a free lesson directly after - on another supposedly broken horse from the back of the lorry! It was usually either a trip to a&e, or a...
ahhh! I thought you meant that you were going to live in it yourself. In that case I would say we probably left the house in better nick than the stables. The landlord tried to screw us over re: deposit (£900!!!) so I left my FULL deeplitter beds for him. I'm kind like that.
I'd be expecting...
haha - oh it sounds like you might be local to me - local woman who rides her *DUBLIN* horse in walk trot classes against riding school kids! It's a joke.
I did, and loved it - but realistically, it was a bind. you had no back up when you went away for a night, nobody to feed breakfast, and we were only saving about £100 a month on livery+rent costs, with a crappy school. It also made the jump from renting to owning a "huge deal" - first world...
Not in a million years. My idiotic pony thinks he's the dogs cahoonas when he's hitched - I wouldn't drive him bitless anymore than I'd drive him in an open bridle. I ride my mare bitless, but she has a brain between her ears, where as he stores his a slightly different location.
I use a cross under bridle on my sensitive old lady. She has spent 20 years fighting me in every bit imaginable - until we settled on a very thick, hollow mouth snaffle. When we made the jump to bitless it was an "ah ha!" moment - she just settled - she can still be a bit strong when hyper, but...
