    Newmiln Landini

Does anyone know if he is still alive? I saw him a few years ago in Scotland, I think Elaine Macfarlane had him then? I thought he was lovely, now I have a mare who I want to put in foal next year, and would really like to see if he's still around? Anyone got any news about him?

    Feed Mites?

I recently bought a bag of feed, and put the opened bag in BRAND NEW feed bin (no feed been in before) next morning the bin was literally crawling with mites. If I find mites I always throw the feed away and thoroughly clean the bin with power hose. Would you eat muesli with creepy crawlies in...

Can I use an ordinary spanner to screw studs in?

Of course you can, we have both an ordinary spanner and an adjustable one in the stud box. You don't have to use the T tap thingy!

Travelling a horse on the left

We have a 15.2 that we always travel on the left of Ifor Williams trailer. If we put him on the right he falls over! We have never had a problem with him on the left - and have been travelling him on the left for seven years now. We do get some funny looks but it is much safer for him, and he...

Riding mare with foal at foot - controversial?

My daughter rode our mare when her foal was about 5 months old, started off in the school, and then starting walking work round the farm - foal on a long (draw rein length) lead rein. It meant the mare got her shape back much quicker and the foal was used to being handled and therefore was...

    comfrey, safe to feed?

A few years ago, I had a horse with a stress fracture and fed comfrey which grew in abundance locally for about six months. I picked and then dried it before feeding about a large tablespoon full twice a day. The horse recovered and eventually passed a five stage vetting! Good luck!

Yes - Try a Sue Carson. Our eventer goes beautifully in one. Very comfortable. Worth contacting Sue Carson for advice on local supplier - she's very helpful.

    Poor, Poor Dotty

I'm so sorry for you - we lost our 5 day old foal in June, so have some understanding of what you are going through. My thoughts are with you.

    Very Sad

Our mare, who lost her foal only four weeks ago did her first ODE at the weekend at Solihull RC (Novice) - she had a great day, had to be stopped from going too fast! and finished on her (terrible) dressage score! She has been ridden and fittened up since losing the foal, and when I looked at...

    ROYAL SHOW

Hi I was at the Royal Show today, and saw an ambulance in the ridden coloured horse ring. Apparently, according to a spectator the ridden judge had come off one of the horses, alledgedly it reared and the judge came off. When I got to the side of ring the judge was being stretchered on a back...

Old Wives' Tale? A.I.ing maiden mares?

Interesting thought - we've bred two foals, both AI - one eight years ago, and mum just didn't know what to do with the foal, but with sedation and several days in the box decided that she quite liked the foal, but was never overly maternal - in fact when foal was 5 months old was quite happy to...

    Help...Foster mum needed

So sorry to hear of your loss - I used to live in Central Scotland before moving to the Midlands. We lost our 5 day old foal on Tuesday, but unfortunately, our mare wouldn't be suitable, she didn't like being a mum (see Very Sad thread) - but my thoughts are with you, Good Luck!

    Very Sad

Thank you all for your kind thoughts, its meant a lot to us. It was the mare's first foal, one of my daughters says don't breed from her again EVER and the other says just be more prepared next time - have the vet briefed and some sedation at the ready - she did seem to be taking to the foal by...

    Very Sad

Our mare had a beautiful bay colt foal on Thursday 12/6, but she didn't like him - she attacked him with her teeth and heels, and we had to get the vet to sedate her so we could milk off her colostrum and feed it in a bottle! After about 6 hours she eventually let him suckle, as long as we held...
