    Jenny Pitman info

Hi guys, You all seem like a knowledgeable crowd, so I thought I'd try here. I've been a Jenny Pitman fan for a long time (I was 9 when I picked Corbiere to win the National), and, knowing that life can be short, I would like to tell her of my admiration. My problem is that I can't...

    GRAND NATIONAL 2013

Alaadin. You have absolutely no proof that any of the horses were hurt in any way, so, no doubt, your inflammatory statement is baseless. I agree with the others who said the race is just another race with the fences built like that. I'm a long time GN lover and I think it was missing some...

    National meeting. First fatality.

Damn Little Josh was put down.

    National meeting. First fatality.

It looks like Little Josh either refused or just completely missed his stride and hit the fence. I hope Sam T-D and the horse are ok. There's No Panic was an unseated rider.

    GRAND NATIONAL 2013

I'm not saying that there are no runners in the race that are suited. I'm just saying that the "safety changes" have made it more attractive to owners with horses who have less experience and less form.

    GRAND NATIONAL 2013

That's good. I just wish the coverage was still on the BBC :(.

    Cheltenham Festival - can't wait.

Matuhi was unfortunately put down after his fall in the previous race. Condolences to all connections. Plus I was amused by the horse that didn't start. My husband and I were just talking about that yesterday. He's not a horse person but even he knows that if a horse doesn't want to...

    GRAND NATIONAL 2013

Charem. I totally agree. It wasn't the camera angle, it was the fact that they left him out there instead of moving him. Plus the fact that they made the field go around Bechers the second time around which also highlighted that there was a horse down. I just don't understand why they did...

2 more horses die at cheltenham today :( :(

@EKW, alliers and lachlan...thank you. I totally agree and made the same point in the GN thread last year! Quoting myself from then...The fences are not too big. In fact , some of them have been modified to make them more forgiving to mistakes. Becher's had the slope on the landing side made...

    The Grand National :D

I just rewatched the 1987 GN online. (Maori Venture, my second winner, yay!) I watched that one in particular because of Dark Ivy and I have a couple of comments/observations. 1) Dark Ivy was killed immediately @ Bechers the first time round and they had time to move him off of the course...

    The Grand National :D

I agree. If the fatalities had happened on second circuit, there would have been no footage of the tarp covered horse or the screens around Dooneys Gate. They may have mentioned them during the rerun but it would not nearly have been as big. I hate to knock the safety procedures at Aintree...

    Doclkands Express has died.....

I am so sad. He was a great old horse, a careful jumper and a sweetheart.:(

Can anyone remember the horse who refused to start the Grand National?

I remember Vodkatini, obstinate bugger!! There was a horse at Aintree this year named Chaninbar who refused to start in the Melling Chase on Friday, so they entered him in one of the chases on Saturday and he refused to start again!! It was funny to watch, then think about how people say...

Grand National- Are the fences too big?

The fences are not too big. In fact , some of them have been modified to make them more forgiving to mistakes. Becher's had the slope on the landing side made less of a slope plus the "brook" on the landing side is covered up. Others have been shortened and the spruce covering them falls more...
