Stuck on a Livery yard we don't want to be on!

Just leave! As long as you’ve paid then you’re under no obligation to the YO and can leave when you like.

    Long dressage boots big problems

Why don’t you have a look at the Celeris bia’s? I’ve got two pairs and are great as the fit is adjustable outwards. They can do Skype fittings I think so can help you get the right measurements

    WWYD? Turning away options?

I’d keep him at home. Sounds like you’ve done a lot of work to get him to where he is now and I’d not want that going to waste.

    How long to see progress

Even taking things snails pace I’d expect an improvement within 6 months. If I was you then I think you might need a different set of eyes on you or more frequent checks. Your instructor should be giving you the tools to be able to continue outside of the lesson space and if they’re not then you...

    owner/loaner rights

I’m quite surprised by the amount of people that don’t think the owner should be able to ride at their request. My mare is on loan and her owner came and schooled her within the first month but hasn’t done that since. She has hacked her out but hasn’t asked to school her again. I’d never...

Barefeet, flat feet, foot sore, stones, ground, shoes? woes

But the majority, in my experience, do. From these pictures and the dried dung I can see wedged in the crack I’d think it would be a miracle if that split isn’t down to thrush.

Barefeet, flat feet, foot sore, stones, ground, shoes? woes

He has got thrush. Any frog or heel with a split has thrush - can you see how there’s debris all caught up in it? I’d be treating aggressively for a week to ten days. This will mean he’ll start to use the back of his foot properly again. I’d also be keeping an eye on his grass intake, it’s...

    Advice- transporting stressed horse

I had my 2yo brought up from Devon in a transporter as I knew I’d be stressed doing it myself. Far nicer to sit and wait at home!

Do your partners accompany you to the yard?

My husband rarely came to the yard but they’re at home now so he’s often pottering about with them! If you have a livery then you need to accept they will bring friends/family etc. Unless you said you only wanted her there then I think you need to suck it up and I wouldn’t say anything unless...

Horses living out- how often are yours checked?

Mine are at home and checked three times a day - AM, lunch, eve - as a minimum. Lunch check might be by OH if I’m out working so that’ll just be a water check and visual ‘are they alive?’ ;) I’d want eyes on any of mine twice a day as anything can happen with horses.

Micronised Linseed ? yay? or neigh?

Yep that’s right for max feeding levels though if you’re feeding up near that for conditioning I’d go for omega rice as it’s far more cost effective.

    Grazing time, per day???

My two are out 9pm-6:30/7am on meadow grass and are looking well on it. I’m monitoring one of mine closely as he was looking tubby but a week in during the day has definitely helped but I will muzzle him if necessary. The 2yo came out of the winter lean and so she gets a bit more hay during the...

    electric fencing

Totally depends on how permanent you want it to be. I’ve cleared and reseeded parts of my land so have taped that off for the horses until it’s established (18 months or so) so I’ve used 60mm wooden posts and tape. It looks smart and the horses respect it. I will be using the same set up for my...

    Bedding woes...

I’ve now got mine on Laysoft which is like easibed and I’ve got hippo tiles underneath which allow the urine to drain through. Having had a disgusting horse my recommendation would be a bigger stable - mine is now in a 16x12 - as that really helps. Bedding seems to be secondary and I don’t...

Magnesium amounts - calmer & balancer?

As the other posted said, excess magnesium is excreted so you won’t do any harm. My horses are currently on 60ml mag ox per day and I know others who feed 100ml+.
