    Turn out questions... wwyd?

Sorry you're having such a hard time :( I just wanted to say how great it is that you recognise and take responsibility for your 'less than friendly' horse. I am on the other side of this at the moment with another horse who has attacked both of mine (and I mean attacked, injuries to both horses...

Attaching a point strap to Ideal GP saddle

I have an ideal GP saddle which is slipping forward slightly so I want to attach point straps to see if this helps. There are webbing loops attached to the points, does anyone know if/how I can attach point straps to these myself? Or do they need to be stitched on by a saddler?

    travelling your horse.

I'd try a horsebox, and travel backwards if possible. But you can also do a lot to help him feel happier in the trailer. Have it open and walk him towards it but past it and around the trailer regularly, a few times a day. When he's doing this without showing signs of stress start putting his...

What are the barmiest yard rules you've had to put up with...

Oh my goodness! I have loved reading these, what an eye opener! I had no idea livery could be so bad! My yard was the only one I looked at and it's great, no daft rules, everyone's friendly, we're all DIY so we all help each other out. I am never ever leaving and will be sure to give my YO a...

    Saddle for 4yo Welsh C

Thank you :) That's good to know. I'm going to get in touch with some saddle fitters and see if I can find one with a range of saddles to try so I have an idea what to buy her.

Working in an outline - for us or the horse?

Wow! Thank you all so much for your replies! Lots to think about, and loads of points I hadn't considered before. Really interesting how different styles of riding and different sports have their different 'outlines' but all are aimed towards the goal of having the horse in balance and working...

Working in an outline - for us or the horse?

Does anyone know why we insist that horses work in an outline? Is it actually of any benefit to them? Or is it just to give us better control? It's one of those things I've always just gone along with. I've never thought to question it until breaking and schooling Rosie, I have no intention...

    Saddle for 4yo Welsh C

I have a 4 1/2 yo Welsh C mare. She's got a lot of filling out to do over the next few years. Obviously her saddle is going to have to change shape too. My question is would you invest in a good saddle now, and hope it will be able to be adjusted enough by the saddle fitter as she grows, or...

    A second horse. Should I?

Go for it! She sounds perfect, you'll kick yourself later if someone else gets her. You know the rewards will outweigh the bit of extra work. Heart over head this time. Have some fun :D

Young pony's first outing done - now what?

I took Rosie to the local bloodhound training meet this week and it was awesome! It was on a farm 15 mins walk from our yard so a couple of us hacked there. She really loved it! She was so well behaved standing around waiting at the beginning, and walking/trotting to the first fields. She...

Do they really want to BUY the horse?

Great thread :) I recently bought my pony on first viewing (not advised I know) but she was 400 miles plus a ferry trip away. Because I didn't want to make that journey for no reason I tried to find out as much as possible before hand to make sure she was the right one. I asked for loads of...

    Schooling a newly backed horse

Wow, thanks guys :) This is all so encouraging! I'll keep doing what I'm doing then. I am hoping to get her out on the bridle path on her own next week, there are a couple of good hills near by to help build some muscle on her. I have just booked a trainer to come and start to teach her to lunge...

    Schooling a newly backed horse

Bit of background, I bought Rosie, a 4 1/2 yo, well handled but unbroken Welsh sec C. I am in no rush to do anything particular this year, just some hacking, and teach her some basics, going at her pace and learning together. She is incredibly laid back and confident about being handled so her...

    First time backing a horse

I know this thread is really old, but I want to say how encouraging it was :) A few weeks ago I bought a well handled but completely unbroken 4 yo. I have seen horses broken and helped with early schooling but never done it alone, and this is my first pony since I was a teenager. My plan was to...
