    Best clippers ?

Must admit I agree with above, I would check the tensioning and try a new set of blades. My clippers must be 20 years old and I just clipped my girl again yesterday and they made a good job. They are listers and I think the model is stablemate but don't think the make them anymore.

    Christmas Day Routines?

I normally put mine out on xmas morning quite sharp and get everything done ready for them coming in then in the afternoon I get them in about 3 and leave with extra hay and water to keep them going. We don't usually have dinner till about 4 though.

    Colic Surgery

I am not sure what I would do to be honest. I would probably not go through with surgery as I live 3 hours from the vet hospital which is a very long journey with a colicing horse. I wouldn't put an old horse through it either. If it was a young healthy horse and I lived near the hospital I...

We are looking for a car / 4x4 to tow an ifor williams 505 plus my highland pony...

How to build a mare back up

As previously suggested lunging and leading out in hand. Bit of in hand work in an arena and long reining maybe. I would just keep the work pretty slow so she isn't sweating and using up all the energy you are feeding her to put weight on. Micronaised linseed is quite handy for putting weight on...

    Slipped flexor tendon

My old mare pulled the tendon off her hock when she was pregnant. The vet thought she had Broken her leg to start with as she was completely non weight bearing when I found her with no obvious injury. She was sent to vet hospital where they quickly discovered what she had done. She had a few...

Pony kicking when lifting feet - any advice?

My pony hates anyone touching her feathers. If I touch her feathers she will snatch her feet away. Also hold the foot tight and don't let go as once they have learned they can snatch the foot away they will keep doing it and stand to the side but close to them so you don't get kicked.

    Vet work up

Don't discount using pracend. My old mare was on pracend for Cushings and it made a huge difference to her on only 1 tablet a day. I did have to introduce it very carefully as she did get the pracend veil that they can get so we reduced the amount then built it up very slowly and she was gr8...

    Very disappointing training setback (moan)

We had a similar bad experience with a crop spraying tractor recently only my pony went to go past it then took fright an slipped and fell in the road. Luckily she was ok though scared. The tractor driver just drove off while my pony was still on the ground😬

    Rugging wwyd

If yours is anything like my highland you will end up clipping eventually. My girl gets so hairy she gets clipped do she doesn't get too sweaty when riding and also if she gets wet with rain she is much easier to dry. She wears different rugs depending on the weather.

Youngster putting head under trailer breast bar....

Putting her head under the breast bar would really worry me I am afraid. A few years ago I witnessed a friends horse getting her head stuck under the breast bar of the trailer and the horse ended up with a broken nose which ended in complications with sinus problems and had to have a hole...

    Moving to Scotland with horses

I live in Dumfries and Galloway, Stranraer to be exact. It does rain a lot. West coast generally wetter but milder than further east. It can be a bit remote for horses if u do a lot of affiliated competing as there would be a lot of travelling. If u just do riding club level there is loads to...

    Near miss out hacking :(

I had a near miss with a tractor 10 days ago. The driver wasn't for stopping and when I forced him to he was none to happy. We were on a very very narrow road and we only wanted him to switch off the engine till we were past. The result was that my horse scooted on by it but then slipped on the...
