Comp riders with asthma, share your stories?

Thanks Megabeast, no I hadn't been advised or warned about that at all! I shall avoid them from now on, just to be on the safe side. Thank you everybody this has turned into a really informative, interesting thread! x

It's great to hear you're under control now though Twiglet, thank you for sharing! Lots of people have said about alcohol actually, I'm not been drinking very much recently so can't really identify whether it's a trigger yet or not, but I'll definitely keep an eye out. My first attempt at a...

Comp riders with asthma, share your stories?

This is turning into a really interesting post thank you all so much for your comments and for sharing your experiences. Aran thank you for your input - the first doc I saw mentioned a lung function test but nothing has happened since, should I ring my GP surgery and specifically ask for...

Comp riders with asthma, share your stories?

Thanks TarrSteps that's really positive to hear! I'm rather bad at slowing down when I feel something coming on, and have paid the price this year with a number of hospitalisations unfortunately! Hopefully I've learnt from this now :S Just out of interest - I've often wondered if I have some...

Comp riders with asthma, share your stories?

Bubblegum that's interesting that running helped your daughter - I used to run a lot but haven't been able to so far this year. Today the asthma nurse said I could start doing some gently interval training again (three times per week) on top of my riding so am itching to see if the inhalers...

Comp riders with asthma, share your stories?

I've been told to use my brown inhaler two puffs in the morning and two at night... and I have a blue inhaler as well which I have been told to take two puffs first thing and last thing, but also immediately before I walk the dogs, ride or muck out. I've been told that they expect I'll use my...

Comp riders with asthma, share your stories?

Last month I was diagnosed with scarring on my lungs and as a result, asthma (hopefully - the other option is COPD which would be less favourable), following a rather traumatic series of lung complications. I've never had asthma before, and am just about getting used to remembering to take my...

Horse bolting & squeeling on lunge... ideas?!

Thanks for your thoughts YasandCrystal - the first time I tried I just kept thinking "Aaaaaaany minute now... he'll steady off..."! Nope! I'll try the two lines approach too. I think this must be a learned behaviour you're right - I'm going to try and bore him to death with it too, repeat it...

Horse bolting & squeeling on lunge... ideas?!

Thanks for your replies, interesting thought that he might have been 'taught' to play like this on the lunge. Personally I think it's really dangerous and can't understand why this behaviour would have been encouraged. I've arranged to borrow a harbridge from a friend so will try this...

Horse bolting & squeeling on lunge... ideas?!

I use lunging primarily as a winter tool when I struggle with access to hacking and often our outdoor arena is flooded and or frozen... sometimes both! My new chap doesn't really seem to agree that lunging is a good idea. He's clearly been lunged in the past, but I struggle to get him to do...

    present help

If she's the sort of rider who has lessons, why don't you organise her a lesson with some sort of riding celeb in your area? That would be a real treat!!! Alternetively, how about a voucher for a spa morning/massage or similar? Horsey people LOVE things like that as gifts because we...

Totally stuck finding horse a new home... any ideas?

That's interesting Copperpot so many people have said the same - and perhaps by putting her in that lower price bracket, that's why we've attracted riders who don't seem to have the skills to ride her! Food for thought, and definitely something I'll do differently when we next advertise her. x

Totally stuck finding horse a new home... any ideas?

Thank you everybody for your comments and ideas. Interesting to hear from somebody in a similar situation that has decided to loan too! WD I honestly, genuinely posted looking for advice and have heard so many loan stories now and gained enough confidence from kind posters who have commented...
