    Dog w/ Fractured Pelvis

Good to get reassurance. I am so upset about the whole ordeal. With concerns to her passing "motions"...I'm not sure. She has peed since the accident but no poop yet, but she also was not eating. Today is the first day I got her to eat, so I will keep an eye on her bowel movements.

    Dog w/ Fractured Pelvis

My dog got hit by a car and fractured her pelvis. We opted to not do surgery r/t the high cost and are trying rest for 4-6 weeks to see if she will heel on her own. Has anyone had any experience with this? Any suggestions?

    Grain vs. Alfalfa Pellets

just curious...how much beet pulp are you feeding? And what is the purpose? Does it add fat? Do you have to soak the pellets? My mare is 16.2 hands and 850 lbs (I got her about a month ago). I suppose the vit/min. supplements are for balancing?

    Grain vs. Alfalfa Pellets

Hi Everyone, My 3 year old TB mare is underweight (bought off the track). It was suggested to me to get her off grain (she's on 2lb, 2x day) and put her on alfalfa pellets, BOSS, and rice bran. Naturally this process would take over 2 weeks. Any thoughts on this? Why is grain no longer...

    Can Mud Fever cause Lameness

I have been cleaning it with diluted betadine then nitrofurazone. It was working well, I went away for a few days, the caretaker did nothing to it, and now the scabs are back. So back to the vaseline to soften the scabs and remove them, then I'll start again.

    Can Mud Fever cause Lameness

Hi Everyone, I've had my mare for 1 month today, she came to me with mud fever on her. 2 have cleared up, the back hindlegs, especially one, is taking much longer. At times there is swelling, sometimes some warmth, sometimes a bit of stiffness. Has anyone else experienced this in their horse...

Thanks for all the input. What is known as straight feed? I've just been use to already mixed feeds. The Trimax is a high protein, high fat mixture, I beleive it has some beet pulp. Anyone have suggestions on time line? How long should I wait to see results and make some adjustments?

    mud fever again... please read

I understand, what a pain! (literally for horse and owner). I bought my mare 3 weeks ago and she had mud fever. The seller said it was "no big deal". Well I have 3 legs cleared up by using baby oil first to soak the scabs off for easy removal, then I washed with diluted betadine, then applied...

    locked stifle vs. ligament tear

Yes, I have been resting her inside for the past 2 days. She came with a bad case of mud fever as well, so the dryness of the stall is good for her. The vet said stall her for a minimum of 2 weeks and put her on bute. I stayed away from the bute and have been applying MSM gel to the gaskin and...

    locked stifle vs. ligament tear

The 2nd vet recommended 2 weeks in the stall with bute and see what happens. Not a problem if its a ligament tear, but if it's a locked stifle she should be exercised to build up her hind end. I am realizing I need the tools to dx her. Hard when your in a rural area. For now she is being...
