What advantage does a horse have trained by parelli regime v traditional training

I have had the pleasure of trying to retrain one for the past 8 months. Funnily enough he was gifted to us. We don't own a carrot stick and i prefer not to have to poke a horse with a schooling whip to get him to move for me, stand for the farrier, be groomed, back off the stable door etc etc...

Young horse with very soft mouth....but no brakes!!? Advice??

Really simple this one, ask your friend who you hack out with, to be a real friend and bear in mind that you are on a young novice horse and could she/he stay in walk and trot until you are ready to canter and then she follows you. That way you are in control all round and there is no-one...

Brands that have lost their way...

This thread so made me smile. I bought the loveley dubarry galway boots for £298, did'nt even get 6 months out of them, sole split and detatched on one boot and stitching wore through on the calf area on both of them. Bought 2 premier lightweight turnouts which both only lasted a day (never had...

scared about new person coming to yard tomorrow reasurance please!

Good advice from darkhorse, when i moved yard there was someone who had the same reaction as you and all that happened was she worked herself up so much and caused so many problems (all over facebook) the YO had to ask her to leave. Allow some generosity in your heart.

    Dreadful Handing at Arab Show

Hi Avonbrook You have made some very valid points, what is needed now is for those from the ruling europe and world conferences to accept responsibility so that change can be initiated, but i have little faith happening after all the faces that seat these bodies breed, own and show themselves...

Can't believe how stressful selling my horse is!!

The only answer is to screen them over the phone, if they are going from bombproof cob to arab then they will still be novices, have you tried advertising on arabianlines.com ? You will get more experienced types through there.

Can't believe how stressful selling my horse is!!

I don't know, but i think well mannered and schooled should come into it. Flighty is probably not the best thing to say, an awful lot of arabs are'nt flighty but put an unbalanced, wooden handed leg nagging novice on top and they can be perceived that way. So maybe add not suitable for novices...

    Disfigured foaly

I would like to post a photo of the foal we had last year with a wry nose but don't know how to do it???? A year on and she is doing fabulously with regular 6 monthly dentistry at £100 a time. I spoke with janey last night and will give her all the support she needs, she is not asking for...

    Foaling/Mare & Foal Stable Size

Not all mares will happily foal down outside, some will become very agitated and want to be in a box, also if your mare becomes foal proud it would be an awful lot harder for you to physically get at both of them after, not to mention in a paddock you have no electricity or light so if there isa...

How many bales of hay .....

My 17.1 ISH veteran has 3 sections a night, but when the snow is on the ground him and his companion had half a bale to share in the paddock. The girls have one and a half sections a night. We do take the hay ourselves and know that it has a relativeley high calorific value, SS does your yard...
