Horse won’t stand to be washed

Around £100 I think, I've had mine a few years now and it is lovely to have hot water available in the barn.

Horse won’t stand to be washed

I have one who is a complete pain unless the water is almost hot. Then he is an angel. I saw the light and bought an urn.

Suspected uveitis with ongoing issues and growing vet bill.

I had 3 sheep with eyes that looked like that and loss of vision. My vet told me to give them Allamycin (antibiotic) injections.

    Worming advice

Mine are 30, 10 and 4. My vet is happy for them to be wormed with Pramox at this time of year.

Long term box rest with guarded prognosis

Mine has a similiar injury and I have been advised by the vet hospital to have him on restricted - can move about but not hooley - turnout for a year and then look at starting rehab after another scan. He doesn't look lame and is young.

    Old kit!

I have a requisite four tined muck fork I got from Robinsons around 30 years ago. Apart from all the paint wearing off it is as good as new and has seen a lot of action.

Tips on how to housetrain a dog which is currently living in kennels

I have had two mature dogs from kennels and although there were some accidents for a day or two they got the hang of where to go inside a week with very little effort on my part. I've always had older dogs and am not always alert enough to consistently praise them for getting it right.

    Dangerous stallion?

I was attacked by a Shetland stallion. he slammed me against a fence and I fell through it to safety but still have scars. He had not long lost his companion of over 20 years and this was his third offence in about a fortnight. He had attacked a horse that lived in a neighbouring field and his...

    Useful skills

I am working on getting my young horse to lower his head when I fiddle with his forelock. I fiddle with it and then lots of verbal praise when he lowers his head. Verbal praise is already associated with neck scratches. I would rather not stand on things to plait.

    Weird vet stories

A pony tried to climb over a breeze block wall and got a front hoof stuck in the holes in the breeze blocks at the top. Straw bales were used to support the pony while the hoof was extracted as it would only come out exactly the same way it went in. It was all a bit scary but I don't think even...

    Regular teeth cleaning by vet?

Petkin Liquid Oral Care that you put in the drinking water kept my old dog comfortable in his old age but his teeth still looked manky. The vet said he was too old for a big clean and would just have to keep having antibiotics for the recurring infections. Once on the oral care he ate normally...

How can you tell a young horse's scope/potential?

A show jumping breeder I know runs his four year olds down a jumping lane a few times to assess their potential. The ones that show talent are sent to be broken in and sold by an expert.
