How do you put photos on here? I have plenty! :-)

WWYD if you saw an advert for a horse than you KNEW wasnt honest

That is SUCH a crappy situation! I was in an almost similar situation (just no where near as bad!)... there was a horse I had always liked put up for sale because of sharpness. It was especially bad with traffic which is quite an issue for a cart horse. They described him as 'trained to pull...

Why won't the traffic just slow down!!!

I didnt realise the two signals were soooo similar! Very annoying! At least the highway code does state ALL horses should be passed slowly - we shouldn't have to signal. Except when asking traffic to stop if things arent going well or a combine harvester is passing (even I am scared of them! )

Why won't the traffic just slow down!!!

Ok so it sounds like people are a little confused about hand signals... if we don’t know there is little hope for the rest of the population. Here is a couple of links with all the safety instructions - it confirms that waving your straight arm up and down is how to ask traffic to slow...

Why won't the traffic just slow down!!!

I have the book here and am reading through it - dont k ow how to post picture but the instructions say in order to ask a car to slow down you should wave your hand up and down 3 times. The picture you have posted is for motorbikes to tell other people they are slowing down. Horses are...

Why won't the traffic just slow down!!!

The highway code does indeed state that you should stick your arm out straight and wave it up and down 3 times (not wave as in a say 'hi' wave). I was in a hi-vis jacket with hi-vis gloves. I am on a 15.2 coloured cob, not a small grey shetland and it was a long straight road - there was no...

Why won't the traffic just slow down!!!

This isn't an option for me unfortunately as the only other horse around I can ride with is very newly backed/nervous and hasn't been in contact with traffic at all. I built Roger up to being on the road very slowly and carefully - and to be fair he is fine with most traffic at 30mph and less -...

Why won't the traffic just slow down!!!

Well I think I am going to start saving my pennies and buy a helmet cam! May also purchase a tabard saying 'slow down and smile - you're on camera!'

Why won't the traffic just slow down!!!

Fairyclare - I am so sorry you have been put into that position! I wish we could beat them in some way - horses were on the roads well before cars! They built the first roads - all we want is for people to not put us in danger! Even if places weren't flooded - it isn't fair that you can't...

Why won't the traffic just slow down!!!

That sounds awful! :-( I think it should be a driving offence. 3 points and a £60 fine! Your guy with the motorbike should be done for hit and run! If a driver causes you to fall and doesn't stop - they should be prosecuted!

Why won't the traffic just slow down!!!

Webcam is a brilliant idea! :-) I never thought of threatening drivers with CCTV! I wanted to report a couple of people but my main priority was controlling the horse - this takes all my focus so I end up missing the number plate! I just find the whole thing so hateful and uncaring...

Why won't the traffic just slow down!!!

Hi! I reckon there isn't much of a solution but venting always makes me feel better! I have a new and relatively young horse. He was broken in to pull at about 2/3 and because of general sharpness was turned away. One of the main issues his previous owners had was traffic related. I took...

    taking my horse to university?

I took my fell to uni with me once I had settled a bit - I think at the very start you need to make friends and settle in. He then died suddenly and unexpectedly. I wouldn't have managed a horse through 4th year (the year we do finals) but I know others who did manage (probably more efficient...

    Fell pony advice

I had a lowthwaite fell... I may be biased but I always felt he was the most beautiful animal in the world. He had a very bad start to life so was quite a handful. I agree, with everyone else, very sensitive animals (even a tap on the shoulder was too much for Jack). They have heeps of...
