Thank you so much for this information Cortez it is quite fascinating and interesting to learn about something I had very little knowledge of. Any further information that you have I would love to read it.
I found this particularly interesting and watched the Merlin bullfighting video again...
Cortez are you able to shed any light in the use of dressage movements on the battlefield please?
Whilst I agree with those who say that exercises where used to develop strength for the battlefield and display I can't see this training used in isolation though? I imagine a battlefield to be...
I think this is quite common in Portugese/French training. Many horses are taught to piaffe in hand earlier in their training to emcourage engagement behind. In some cases training has become very linier now you do lateral work, flying changes, then piaffe etc. . But piaffe is only an exercise...
I did just want to add that I think allowing the horse to stop and stretch regularly and certainly after some good work is a really undervalued thing. In the video the black horse did perhaps six fantastic strides and was then allowed to stop. It is a great way to teach a horse to recognise when...
I totally agree Leg-end. It is so great when people discuss things because you can actually learn from others. Perhaps H&H could organise for us to have a like button. I have not posted for a while because it can be very addictive and time consuming but so often I read something and wish I...
I understand TarrSteps but tbh think you will find there are as many bad/good classical trainers as there are bad/good modern trainers. The tricks you refer to were actually
practiced during war time when they where less interested in 'rules' in regards to what was natural what wasn't. Riders...
Know what you mean Goldenstar. But I am not sure if it is just concentration on the horses face or as you say discomfort. Sometimes I wonder if it is because we are not used to seeing these movements anymore that they look uncomfortable??
Here is some video of canter reinback which you may find...
Not sure if anyone is interested in this video but it shows some terre a terre'- which is essentially a 4 beat canter on the spot and was highly valued exercse for it's ability to set a horse back before a jump. The rider in this video takes it further and starts going backwards which was...
This is an older movement in terms of dressage although I don't think it has a specific name. There were quite a lot of movements Wheels that used to be preformed but they dropped out of fashion at the beginning of the last century, like canter reinback.
There are two videos of Nuno on this thread, what about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfiTTyi2He8&list=PLNljeJoOek0ndiXeoq7FXikiOYn-faz2r at 3.59 or 4.55?
I find this analysis very interesting _GG_ and as you say looking at the very finest detail. It is so interesting that some others have felt that it is not forward enough and even 'idle' from there perspective. Perhaps as you suggest you prefer a more rounded less forward movement, but this is...
