Help wanted - lovely thick feathers care

Thanks for all the suggestions. I use pig oil & sulphur even on his clipped legs, so will continue with that. I've tried moisturising in the past and it seemed to make it worse by producing even more build-up. I'll experiment with head & shoulders @The Fuzzy Furry, neem and Selsun...

Help wanted - lovely thick feathers care

Hi F Hi, Fuzzy Furry. Thanks for this. Any further tips on getting the shampoo right to the skin? The hair around the old ankles is so thick it's almost impossible to get it wet, or get in to skin

Help wanted - lovely thick feathers care

Looking for any tips on keeping legs free from scurf on a heavy traditional cob type. The feathers are so profuse I struggle to see the skin easily. For 16 years, I've clipped his legs, but left them over winter and he now has an impressive set and I'd like to keep them. But, the reason for...

Help - Calling all folk with traditional/heavy cob feathers

That's the horse, not the owner ? Through almost all of the 16 years we've had our cob, he's had his legs clipped. He gets 'cob knee' quite badly. All four legs get greasy, dandruff and left alone, it collects in any crease and can become sore and scabby. Over winter we left his legs and he now...

Thinking of moving to PE rugs - where do I start?

I am shocked to hear these reports on PE rugs. I know a few people who use and love them and based on that always wanted one o_O All I was going to say, was just watch the fit for your horse. We have a fairly heavy cob and an Andalusian and PE rugs were a terrible fit for both of them. Maybe...

    Europeans Cross Country Thread?

Thanks, Teapot. I think Tina was commentating with another female who said she was at Beijing Olympics. I know Tina was too, but I'm wondering if it was Sharon Hunt with her? Didn't always sound like Tina!

BBC's been fine for us. Anyone know who the commentators are (on BBC)?

    Kate Greenhalgh neglect

I can't understand how it was 'hidden' on a livery yard. I can't believe no one noticed and no one was prepared to speak out in those nine months. Whilst I couldn't accept not seeing my horses every day, and so am on DIY livery, there are times when I need to rely on the yard for short periods -...

    Waterproof Work/Yard Gloves

Skytec Argon. Warm, waterproof, and cheap. I hate wearing gloves and so often take them off for doing some jobs, but these I can keep on all the time. They are slightly bulky, but unless you're doing something delicate, they're fine. I used to use Seal Skinz which I liked a lot, but they're so...

    Vet / Needle phobia

Personally, I'm with your mare....and whatever I've tried, I just can't get over it. I'm dreading the covid vaccine, even though I'll have it, and all the dental work I've got coming up since my charming boy knocked my front teeth out, all of which will involve needles. Sorry - pointless and no...

Farrier - would you say something

No, don't say anything - just find a new farrier. If he's rude enough to leave it until the last minute, then he doesn't deserve your effort of talking. You say you like his work, but he's not a good farrier if he's willing to leave your horse so long. And don't feel guilty!

    Which side for rein buckle?

I always thought that the rein with the buckle should be on the near side, but seem to remember saying that before on this site, and others thought it should be on the other side. I've just looked it up on Google and found a site that also advocates the buckle rein should be on the offside - and...

    How would you handle this?

Forgive me - I'm about to get on one of my biggest bug-bears! I am assuming you rug from the near side (which, I know is correct in BHS terms)? This means throwing the belly straps over the horse and they often catch legs or belly on the way. I know the majority of horses put up with this and...
