Tell me about events in the South East please

Milton Keynes is a lovely, very professionally run event with good courses. Iping is a nice, hunting type of course with good ground (sandy and usually good even in dry or wet conditions). Do walk the course thoroughly though, as last year a few people got caught out on the hill, missing a fence...

Talk to me about hay steamers?

I have a haygain. Quite expensive but sturdy and works brilliantly. Half bale takes about 15-20 minutes, depending on weather. The important thing is that you get the right steam temperature throughout, so if you are doing DIY, make sure you implement a way to monitor temperature at the core of...

    Trickle-haynet

I bought two about 18 months ago. They trickle effect worked brilliantly, however, my gelding has managed to rip botH, one along the seam and the other one right in the middle :( . We also had to replace the drawstrings after a couple of months. Overall, I think they are probably not worth 30 a...

Would you go XC with studs in but WITHOUT a stud girth?...

I do. My mare is so delicate that she won't have the big stud girth pad on her belly... She does lift nicely in front but her feet are not where the stud girth would be anyway.

Anyone do sponsored rides & shows alone? Herts/Essex

It depends on your horse. My gelding is happy to wait on the box as long as he has hay. I have taken him to all sorts of things on my own, incl overnight stays at TREC. My mare won't stay on trailer or by trailer alone. We always need another pair of hands with her ;)

    Hyper Grooming Cat Question

Yep, I did. Took her to the vets and it turned out she gad flees! I was in shock, given she is a house cat and has never been out. Vet assured me they are epidemic at the moment and he gets lots of house cats in with flees. Treatment with one flee stuff didn't work so we tried another one called...

    Am I being conned here?

Follow your instinct. I don't think you'd even concider the money if you thought it was the right horse.

    Puncture wound

I think it is laudable of you to take her on and give it a try. The suggested route seems to be an option. However, before you embark, why not have the x-rays done to see the extend of damage? You could potentially save everybody involved a l

yet another livery question. what would you expect to pay for...

As above, would go higher for livery if it had indoor, too, and a walker.

    Tendon boots

I use dalmar eventing boots on all 4 for all jumping. They are a little fiddely to put on behind but the best ones around IMHO... Lightweight, durable, ventilated and super-protective. I saw my filly whack a solid fence with the hinds and she came away unscathed.

Eventers...give me a first event training plan

Aston Le Walls and Swalcliffe Park are lovely ones fairly early in the season. A bit of a drive from you but may be worth looking into. Aston has the sj in an arena with a good surface and the x-c is lovely, not too twisty, good ground, not too hilly and very inviting. Try youtubing some of...

Eventers...give me a first event training plan

Oh, I envy you! Nothing like taking a youngster out on their first one :) My advice would be to do a bit of fittening work for both of you beforehand ... When you hack out, make sure you stand in your stirrups in trot for a few minutes each time, ride up hill at walk and trot, canter him in...
