They are funny aren't they! I don't know whether it makes it better or worse that they can do it for no real reason!
I genuinely don't think it's me tensing up, as it can be a different thing every ride, sometimes he really takes me by surprise. And yet, on a hack this morning he stood and...
Lighthearted (sort of) after another schooling session where I've had to take some deep breaths!
I'm a firm believer in the fact that horses don't have the mental capacity to be 'naughty', i.e. if they play up there is generally a reason, pain, anxiety, anticipation etc. So can someone please...
A girl on my yard used to use a hay sling (not sure the actual name of it) for her horse, no idea where she got it but it was like a piece of canvas that clipped to hooks drilled into the walls across the corner of the stable so was removable for cleaning underneath. Was much cheaper than a...
Whereabouts in the Midlands are you? How come your regular coach can't help?
Chloe Smith (daughter of Robert Smith) is a resident trainer at the National RDA centre near Warwick, she's excellent.
If you're sure it's not a physical problem, is he having a chance to see the fences off a...
This is really interesting because my horse is very similar. Doesn't like snaffles but goes beautifully in a tom thumb with rollers. I persisted for so long with a snaffle because I thought it was the 'kind' thing to do but have accepted that he is showing me his preference very clearly!
I just...
I do, I attach the straps to my stirrup leather holders and it has a fillet string too. The wool types are pretty heavy so unlikely to blow around like a lightweight rain sheet type. I love mine, so much neater and easier than the full ride on or wrap around types!
My horse has had a combination of the ligament snip and bone shaving surgery on his KS about 6 years ago now. He is so, so much better for it and has gone back to successfully competing at BE100 and Novice dressage. So from the point of view of being able to do a job, he can absolutely do what I...
Thanks. I had no intention of feeding that much as it just seems so much to stuff into him! Annoys me a little that the feed companies are advocating doing that though.
Think I'll do as others suggest, feed a scoop morning and evening and add a balancer powder to make sure he's getting what he...
Thanks all for your replies!
Just out of interest, does anyone actually end up feeding the recommended quantities of feed? I'm thinking maybe of giving him a scoop of Healthy Tummy or Pure Working am and pm and just adding a multivitamin to make up his RDA, is this sensible?
I want to simplify my horses current feeding regime. I'm not having any particular issues with what he's on now but I want to make sure he's getting everything he needs and ideally looking for an all in one feed that is a bit more economical and easy to manage deliveries etc.
Horse is a 16hh...
People who moan and complain over every little thing but don't make any effort to resolve the problem like speaking to the YO or looking elsewhere. I had a fellow livery complain to me yesterday that her horse got wet and he hates getting wet so would be grumpy to ride but in the next breath...
Unfortunately yes! I lunge him in an equi ami and he's always better in his head carriage then, but actually is probably sitting behind it.
Hope you get to the bottom of it.
