Glad to hear she’s perked up a bit and you’ve managed to get things sorted re insurance. Let us know how she gets on at the vets, they do like to worry us, particularly when they get older!
If she is fully insured, you could start a claim now for the diagnostics and investigate. If you need to pay upfront, could you put it on a credit card? That’s what I’ve been doing for ongoing large vet bills and I’ve received the payouts before I had to pay off the card. Wouldn’t normally...
Wtf, what kind of vet is telling people that Cushings doesn’t need prascend? That is mad and really dangerous. Does she actually understand what Cushings is and how it works? I feel sorry for her horse.
I was advised to inject into the pectoral muscles and found that much easier. My boy was very good to inject, and I would prepare the needle first. I would also get someone to give him one of those tub licks as a distraction.
Could not agree more. When my little dog was nearly killed by a staffie, the police were not interested in taking further action. Never mind the huge vet bills, subsequent insurance hikes and ongoing physio/hydro needed, the psychological impact was huge and we were lucky enough that she...
Mine has had arthritis in his hocks for a long time. He’s now 24, retired and EMS and Cushings so 24/7 turnout is not an option. He’s always been fine on half a danilon a day but recently his left hock has been playing up. He’s incredibly needle phobic so the cartrophen injections I’ve done on...
Much much easier to wizz up a laid back horse than de-fizz a sharp one. You’d be surprised how many ‘lazy’ horses improve with clear consistent training and variety.
I love my papillon! She’s 10 now and still full of enthusiasm, people are shocked when I tell them because she doesn’t look remotely ‘old’. She’s very very smart, picks up on everything and as she was an only puppy she can be a bit bossy. She’s good with my cat, travels anywhere and everywhere...
It was so depressing to see the French bulldog win over much more ‘for for function’ dogs in the group. As a papillon owner I was thrilled to see another papillon win best in group, it’s a stunning dog and thankfully papillons seem to look the same as they have done for centuries by and large...
Nothing to add other than I also having a Cushings/lami Welsh section A and it’s a constant worry and battle. She is very slim, you’ve followed every rule out there so this relapse is not on your shoulders. When mine had a terrible bout, he was in on a deep bed with paracetemol plus two danilon...
The spurs debate constantly lacks any kind of nuance. Spurs should be used on horses that are *already* off the leg, for refinement and to reduce the size of aids. When you are asking for changes, half pass, pirouettes etc which all require a leg behind the girth but with subtle differences...
Just to say that whilst I love horses, riding and I’ve been doing it a long time, I am naturally a more anxious rider than other people. In order to enjoy it, I have to work within my own limits. There is no way I would have the nerve for racehorses, no matter how much training I had. It’s one...
I’ve watched my Welsh pony go from bucking into canter transitions to popping smoothly into canter, the only difference being he is now on a more effective painkiller for his hocks. How many horses are out there being labelled problem horses, or having their owners dismiss their behaviour as...
I prefer thigh blocks to knee blocks because I ride long and I have long legs. I try and only ride in dressage saddles so a saddle that supports my leg to hang in the correct place is very useful. I’m trying to ride in a more classically correct position and when I eventually get a horse/saddle...
