Following on from my Prascend thread

My elderly horse, 1 pill a day, lost his love of life and looked so poor I decided to PTS before that winter arrived. It seemed pointless medicating a horse once this decision had been made so I stopped the pills, I got my old boy back! He carried on for another 5 years with a grin on his face...

    Hay/haylage dilemma

It is generally an earlier cut so more easily digested hence why some horses do well on it. The fermentation process turns the sugar into lactic acid so if your horse have gut issues it may not suit. It is also higher protein. For a normal horse of good weight without ulcers I prefer haylage.

Audi A4 petrol estate and single Trailer

I think Audi may be quoting you the gross vehicle weight not the Kerb weight, the Kerb weight which will be nearer 1500Kgs will include the car and all standard equipment and liquids (sometimes a full tank of fuel) the gross vehicle weight is the maximum weight allowed including a full set of...

    Newly barefoot top tips

The heels on scoot boots can be stretched to fit by holding that area in simmering water for 5 minutes and molding them to the shape required as they cool down. Obviously if you try this and you are still not happy you can't return them so you would have to be very happy with the rest of the...

    Sheered heels and going barefoot

When I had the shoes taken off my girl I had the vet there at the same time to do x-rays before during and after to help the farrier, she needed 1/4 inch off the outside front right to balance them. She walked out fine for the first 3 weeks, doing 20 mins a day on hard flat ground, and then the...

    Sheered heels and going barefoot

I don't post much but I felt it worth outing myself 😉, I was talked out of taking the shoes off for about 12 months. Hopefully the pictures help someone else, she would never have come consistently sound if the shoes had stayed on. She stands chance now. Thanks again to YCBM for her help. X

    Sheered heels and going barefoot

The pictures below are of my mare, thank you so much YCBM, the bottom is when her shoes came off 7 weeks ago. The top is last week after her last trim, I had been struggling with her in shoes for 4 years before this. The best thing I could have done, it is a massive improvement in a short...

Help and advice appreciated - misadventures of an old cat

My fussy 19 year old will eat anything, but preferably room temperature chicken, if smothered in the yogurt squeezy treats recommended above, any flavour. Hope he is back on form soon.

    Worst thing the cat's done.

I have had grown rabbits and baby ones, squirrels, more rats and moorhens (live and dead, in the house or out, chicks and adults) obviously other rodents. We could have a feast!

    Worst thing the cat's done.

This is an 8kg cat coming out of a small dog flap. A big rat that was alive and kicking until i screamed and sent him out, yes I swore! Not for the first time or the last probably. Also not the worst thing he has done, just captured.

    Schoolmaster GP lessons?

I can also recommend Pen-Llyn, the horses are very capable. A nice area for a weekend away for you both too.

To move or not to move

Can you have both gates opening outwards into the track? It would temporarily block it but create a channel so your horse can only go to the field (or stables).

    Remedial farrier/trimmer recommendations.

I've used Louisa's years ago for a while, nice bloke, that was until the vets made me put shoes on the big guy. That didn't end well. X
