I recently read an article in HH which mentioned horses scratching their heads on their legs after being ridden. For the life of me I cant find it now, and cant remember what the article was about. Does anyone remember or have the article date??

It is easy - if you buy the cement, sand and chips and mix it yourself. You could probably hire a baby belle mixer to speed things up a bit. We laid three stable floors in one afternoon - hubby shoveling and mixing, me wheeling the barrow and laying. I did it with rake to get a rough surface...

Personally I would raise the floor a couple of inches with a layer of concrete. It's not rocket science to mix it yourself - find a gullible man - I did! Just make sure to slope it slightly towards the door or drain.

My vote would be for the Pony Club manual of Horsemanship - we call it the "bible" and I still delve into it occasionally after 50 years of horse ownership!

Can anyone recommend a pair of short length boots that are guaranteed warm and waterproof and dont crack?? I had rimfrost's which were brilliant, but both pairs have cracked along the top of the foot where you bend. I tried cheap muckers but my feet were freezing in them!

Are there any statistics available for how many leisure horses die in use each year?? What happens to all the unwanted riding horses, native ponies and over-breeds we have in the country. I would think the welfare issues surrounding them are much more horrific than those regarding race horses...

Depends on the temperature - it can go off in 36 hours if warm and if it's frosty it can last up to a week. Just smell it - if it smells sour dont feed it!
