My previous Border Collie had a lump on his leg that we did a FNA and came back inconclusive, we removed the lump and it came back as a Sarcoma, there were good margins and he was give a fair to guarded prognosis, he was 12 years old then and I lost him at 15 years 3 months to liver failure.
There are pros and cons to having a bitch spayed at 6 months or waiting until growth plates have closed. Personally I'd rather wait until they are about 2 years old.
If you wait until they have had a season there are risks of:-
Pyometra
Mammary tumours
Unwanted pregnancy
If you spay before a...
I've had 2 bitches done this way, recovery a lot quicker than the 2 previous bitches that were done the conventional way, will do this for all future bitches.
Tayen had to run last dog the 1st year and a half because otherwise she’d do her run, then turn and chase. She now runs start as otherwise she gets too hyped waiting her turn!
We haven’t done too many shows this year, we made a team declared the beginning of the year to concentrate on training, we have lots of young dogs and had pulled some of the older dogs for retraining (including Tayen) and it’s really paid off. We are travelling further to shows, Anglesey...
My dogs prefer staggered, 1 of my girls especially holds her times better over the day, I was a bit concerned for the old dog to begin with (having time to warm up and cool down), but my old girl was competing staggered last year at 12 years old, I retired her at the Champs last year
I was at the UKFL Championships last weekend, Tayen helped her team, Essex Aspire, win indoors Division 4 on Sunday and her multibreed team, Essex Multi A, won indoors multibreed Division 3 on Monday. I'm of to KCIAF now until Sunday.
I've been competing at agility for 19 years with 6 Border Collies over this time, I currently compete with Star (grade 5) and Tayen (grade 4), my youngster (now 17 months) is a Lurcher and challenging, but we are getting there slowly. This is the highlight of my agility career, Skye (now 13) at...
Before I had my van I had a Freelander with the back seats folded up and dog guard behind them, so only had the front seat only, this was big enough for 4 Border Collies, but was pushing it when I had 5. I've had my Vauxhall Vivaro for 5.5 years, have 4 crates in the back fitted by Moonfrost...
I've had 2 bitches spayed the conventional way and the last 2 bitches spayed by keyhole (lap spay), I will have all my future bitches done keyhole (unless their is a problem and they need to be opened up), the recovery is a lot quicker.
