I believe that a swollen sheath can be a sign of cushings (ppid) or insulin resistance(ems), can't remember which sorry. Look it up on the Laminitis Site.
My two have about 100gms of micronized linseed,with the recommended amount of spillers daily balancer every day along with salt and chaff because they have been on restricted grazing. They are well and shiny when they are not covered in mud.
