Well, quite a few of the deaths were people attempting to flee who got caught in their cars, or who crashed because of the smoke and so on It was a firestorm, not just an ordinary bush fire, so very unpredictable.
The death toll so far is 181, but that'll go up once the search starts properly...
The general attitudes at my last place were what caused me to leave. Most of the people there didn't have a whole load of experience, but felt they could compensate with the amount of cash they spent. So unfortunately there were some super horses in gorgeous tack being ridden by complete t*ssers...
It's generally thought that it can transfer from the bats via urine/faeces/blood etc.
It was on the news here the other night that some of the owners of the horses that died have lodged complaints about potential breaches of hygiene standards at the clinic.
It's a tragic situation for all...
I think they've picked a good team. Especially happy to see Shane there, he's worked so hard and had some really bad luck. Sonja and Megan are awesome as well.

-have 'eyes in the back of your head', always try be aware of what's going on around you
-don't assume that because a horse is 'quiet', the usual safety measures don't apply.
