Can you live with an explosive horse?

Firstly - Wagtail, sorry to hear you are having this dilemma...haven't been on here for a while but you are always so supportive of everyone and I'm pleased you have had so many helpful replies. In answer to your question....I personally I would keep going but obviously it is a personal...

22 year old pony to buy or not??

Wow - have just read this from start to finish! so amazing that you are doing this! Her lameness issues should be helped with regular trimming, I know of a cob who was left for 2 years, although his feet weren't long they had grown in such a way that his back legs were turned in and he struggled...

Nappy Young Horse with NO Brakes

She is in the teenage years, lots of challenges to come, try to view each one as positive. If it was me I would get another horse in front for a couple of rides to 'break the habit' but if that isn't possible then don't flap, jump off, walk her, get back on and don't make an issue of it...it'll...

What does 'sharp' mean to you?

Depends who is saying it! if my old YM called a horse 'sharp' it meant I would not want to ride it!! whereas other liveries called my mare 'sharp' as she is quick to react...but I would say she was good as gold! open to intepretation me thinks x

Nappy Young Horse with NO Brakes

Give her the benefit of the doubt initially, more than likely she lacks confidence...you can deal with it a few ways...if you smack her and insist she goes forward it will work eventually (on most horses) but isn't what I would do personally, or you could get off her and lead her until the issue...

    Friesian.... Why?

I bought my boy in Feb last year as a 2yo, I originally wanted one because they are beautiful, intelligent and have always stood out to me! I am never going to have the time/money to compete high level dressage, I have no intention of jumping anymore (too many broken bones) and I have no...

    Outlines and muscles...

Sounds like you are working hard, I LOVE this video - it is very short but brilliant - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8cOq7YWXys&list=FLG4QCGQEolQfowvJ2b-1spg&feature=mh_lolz My back person doesn't like lunging much but does suggest very short periods of time using a bungee. The raised...

    Outlines and muscles...

Hi there - this isn't meant to sound patronising.....do you feel confident in how to work her correctly? for her to work correctly she would need to be active. Before doing anything has her back been checked? If you want to build muscle then you can look at things like working her at a walk...

New to rugging, when should you put a rug on and what type.

This forum does make me cross sometimes....it can be AMAZING...but sometimes people seem to have nothing better to do than to pick at the OP and I hate it! so what if there are spelling mistakes! so what if they 'should know better' ...it would be far better if people could feel able to ask...
