To be honest if you happen to get a bit of sun then I'd give him a proper wash - use hot water and rug well until he's dry and I'm sure he'll be ok. I have to get a white Dales pony clean so I utterly sympathise with you over the mane and tail issue!
You probably won't be able to get hold of...
Ooh how did you get on, what classes did you do? We didn't go, we're doing a few little shows at the moment to get some of them out before the DPS Spring breed show
Thanks so much everyone

SN - Thank you We are SOO proud of Magic, he just keeps on doing us proud, bless him! We're due 3 foals by him this year (including Flora) - the other 2 mares he hasn't been to before so it will be exciting to see what is produced! The other 2 mares...
Our first Dales foal of the year was born on Wednesday - she is a whole black filly, full name Nipna Flora I was at Uni so didn't see her foal, but it was a very quick and easy foaling - mum watches them on CCTV and checks them every hour - woke up for one check and a foal walked out from the...
Sorry to say but this isn't an "outdated" practice at all - certainly within the Dales pony world I know of a few breeders who swing their foals (NOT us, I hasten to add!). Have never seen or heard of a pony that has been hurt by swinging, but equally it's not something I would feel comfortable...
My old pony was approx. 42 when he died - don't know his true age as he'd been around sooo long but people remembered him being "old" 20 years before we had him!
Here he is aged approx. 34 - his name was Horace
DEFINITELY go for a Dales!
They can do absolutely ANY job you ask of them, they look good, they have the BEST temperaments, they will take you along without having to boot them in the ribs, yet give you an enormous sense of security. I am a HUGE advocate of them; we as a stud have 20 of them...
Janet, SO glad someone else has more than us, it makes 27 not sound that bad
We have 2 Dales stallions, 3 (soon to be 4) Dales colts, 5 mares in foal for next year, 9 fillies (7 Dales, one ID filly and one Welsh D), an ID colt, and 7 geldings. Think that's all of them
Personally though, I...
Nope, you're wrong there I'm afraid Yorkshire Lass!
We [Nipna Dales stud] have a bay roan, Coverdales Carnival Queen - she is by Wharfdale Prince Regent (roan) and I forget who her mother is.
Who is your roan Dales? PM me if you prefer
This is Cherry -
There is the Roandales pony stud...
My filly is out in the field 24/7 in a herd of 9 ponies. She's been to a show so she's learned to lead/trot out/have boots on/load/have her feet picked up/have the farrier etc.
