    Would you tow 2 horses?

Well it depends. The VW Amarok pickup truck is 2l engine but has towing capacity of 3000kg. I had one of these as an insurance loan vehicle and it was lovely to tow with, effortless. However all 2litre engines are not equal.

Small bale hay prices: bought from the field -v- delivered

New Forest I am hearing £3.00 to £3.50 off the field, £3.50 to £4.00 delivered. There is an awful lot of hay about this year round here :D

Rant - Highways Agency and planning app for stables and school

I would expect that it is not the Highways Agency she's from but the Highways department from your local council you submitted the planning application to. I am sure if you phoned them up they would be able to confirm that this was the case. It's quite normal for them to visit, objecting to a...

Horse bucking into canter - help needed

Country Bumpkin has most things covered I think. I would add that does this horse have big shoulders that could "catch" on the saddle flaps? That caused one I had to have this bucking into canter thing, solved when we put him in a working hunter cut saddle rather than GP/Jumping. Would...

    paddock management question/ weed

You could rake up the dead stuff and start pulling the weeds you can see growing which would be a start. If nothing else it will make it all look neater/better. I have docks and ragwort (plus brambles thistles and nettles) starting to sprout in my field even if it is really wet and this is...

    Mares and geldings together?

I run mine together, the adult mare and gelding and then the four rising 2 year olds as another group. There are 2 of each and they run together very nicely when the fillies are home (they run on the forest, but are currently home). The "babies" have been together since weaning apart from...

Leave broken bits of ice in the outside automatic troughs or remove?

I never used to, but now I leave the ice in. I don't think it makes any difference, after years of picking ice out and having a colander up there to get out the really fine pieces that could cut me or presumably a horse. When it is REALLY cold (eg the water pipes have frozen so you are...

    Painting inside my stable.

I used Barn Paint (manufactured by Bedec) inside my stable. I did it all in white, it made such a difference from the original mid brown colour of the wood covered with some graffiti from the previous chavvy tenant's kids. If I was doing it again I think it would be better if I did everything...

    Does anyone use Aquamax bedding?

Yes I use Aquamax, and I really rate it, I find it better than other cheaper brands of wood pellets, so I pay the extra for it. Easy to use and the least smelly bedding I have come across. Wash your hands, change your boots and you're good to go if you need to be. I have been using it for...

how to teach them to trot inhand?

It's a nightmare LOL. You'll need to do loads of practice, ideally with a helper who can "chop chop trot on" him from behind if necessary to help him get the idea. I did loads of practice with my yearling in his field, he never got the idea (or pretended he didn't understand), but I took...

    Liverys Horse Damaging stable..Help!

I would be asking the livery to find somewhere else to keep her horse. If the horse won't tolerate being kept in and shows this by trashing the place, then your yard is not the best place for this horse to live. I don't see how either you or the owner can argue with that. The best solution is...

Feeding a TB for weight gain

In the past I have had excellent results with anorexic TB's using Blue Chip feed balancer and D&H Build Up Mix.

    Adding hot water to feed

I used hot water to mix/wet the feeds this morning, normally they just get cold water (but that was frozen this morning). It was so cold that I felt a bit sorry for them...

why no off the peg saddles for flat backed ponies?

What about this one, I bought a 17" one for a 14.2 pony about 7 years ago, he outgrew it as he got older, so it was sold on, but really it was a fantastic saddle. Just not an especially well known brand. Perhaps way more than you want to spend (I know it was for me, but as soon as it was put...
