Thanks! We just don't use it enough to buy one, maybe only a few trips out in the summer. A private arrangement would be ideal, even on a daily basis if the owner is not using it on arranged dates etc.
Hi, our horse has also suffered from laminitis - i know how you feel, it's so hard to get it just right. Every case of lamintis is different except one thing that i swear by is the type and amount of grass. This is not scientifically correct so do not quote me but i often think of laminitis to...
Hi, does anyone know of someone/ a company who is able to hire out a horse lorry for the length of a month in july. Must be self drive and only needs to accomodate 2/3 horses. Private hire/arrangements welcome. Northern Ireland co.down. help would be greatly appreciated!!
Definately reduce hard feed and as others have said, lots of soaked hay would be your best bet. I understand you wanting him to enjoy nice tasting food though! The odd carrot and apple shouldn't do any harm but they are also said to be quite high in natural sugar. Just try to keep a good balance...
I suspect that the lack of turnout this horse gets is the main cause of your problem. A horse who likes to escape is not an excuse! All horses need freedom to go and run around, chill with other horses, fresh air, space etc. Couped up indoors with nothing to do sounds great fun ... So when you...
Is he out during the day? He is probably perfectly fine out at night but just likes the routine of coming in and fed etc! Whatever you decide i'm sure he will appreciate so long as he has lots of time out during the day!
A tricky one, but my solution is always make the field bigger. I think you should try using all of the field or as much as possible in the winter because this will spread out the damage to the land and save a concentrated area getting so wrecked it would be hard to recover. A few months or so...
We had this problem with our female cat a while ago. She used to spray the furniture and we tried many different thing such as orange peel, vinegar, feliway and even catnip but without success. I agree that this is a stress related problem. We caught our cat spaying after seeing another cat in...
I also agree, no small paddocks. 6 ponies on an acre is quite a tight squeeze if you ask me. I much prefer to see horses with as much space as posible. It is better for them and also for the land. With small paddocks you will find that the grass will become trampled and grazed down far quicker...
I agree with the OP to a certain extent. I think nowadays people tend to see a slight problem and call the vet rather than thinking the problem out logically and trying to sort it to the best of their ability. The owner of the horse should have enough knowledge to decide whetherthe...
Since winter is setting in, he will b using up a lot of enery to keep warm. Wintering out will definitely keep weight down because stable will b warm and more food than nibblig outside. Personally i dont like clipping becasue it messes up the horses system and means u have to rug them which also...
Our horses come in at night only in the winter due to the fact that we have a barn with stables so we may as well use it and the horses know their routine of coming in to the warmth, feed, hay, bed etc and if they get left out late, they run around and pace etc. This doesn't mean that if we...
give it a while and you will wonder why you asked. Each horse will have their own specific quirk or marking or little ways and you will find it just comes naturally to you with a bit of time. Until you have worked around them enough to identify their little ways, just ask. People will be glad to...
