Our cob was towed down from near Doncaster in an Ifor Williams behind a normal, (non 4x4) white transit van. Only 14.2hh, she weighs in at about 450kg by weight tape. No troubles.
Our cob/fell came with Dr Bristol, first horse, family of 5 novices, 4 being lead reined around, me going out solo on her (never ridden before).
Lost her brakes/taking the pee, a short time in a Cheltenham gag, regained her brakes.
Back to the Dr Bristol, which we were told was a...
Did our 12x10 with easi mats from Langdean in Birmingham, they are 6ft by 4ft, but joined in the middle with a jigsaw tooth connection. Picked up and paid cash for £27 a mat. Very pleased. They are on eBay rubber4you and will send via courier.
There's one just above Water Orton, on Marsh Lane/Coleshill Road. Looked there when searching for yards, on top of the hill as you cross the bridge over the M42 going into Curdworth from the A446.

Talk to my answerphone if you ring me on the road in car or on horseback. Concentrate on the job in hand, anything else can wait till I've finished hacking or driving.
Of the small sections of bridleway and byway (open to all traffic) available within hacking distance, one is cropped with no visible path, one is furrowed so deep its a hazard to cross and two have been "temporarily" closed by public order from the Sectary of State (via the council?) due to...
Bought first ever horse, complete novices. Settled her in new home for couple of weeks, farrier came, took driving shoes off to take a look, said feet are good and solid, trimmed every 6-8 weeks and shoe-less ever since. Over two years ago, no problems.
You should be able to report it to your local councils Paths Officer who can inform the land owner to reinstate the bridleway or face a fine, cropped field paths should be reinstated within a couple of weeks of being ploughed and reseeded, it is the farmers responsibility to ensure it is passable.
I can't be the only one to actually be looking out for other traffic *from all directions* whilst out riding, can I?
The horse is looking to you, the rider, to look after them and keep safe from hazards? They are trusting you.
If a bike has come up behind me I'm well aware they are...
We rent the fields around a property and to hack it's straight out onto a busy national speed limit road. Took her out in hand to start with.
Nerve wracking at times, if it's too much to hack I've led down to the nearest side road and mounted there.
Horse is pretty good, used to HGVs...
It wasn't the falling off that bothered me, it was the hoof print in the middle of my tummy that hurt, couldn't move or breath for a minute or three.
Mare was like, oops, sorry, but what were you doing on the floor anyway?
