    Rock solid crest

Following this thread, as my mares crest has also become firm. She is on hay only, and turned out in a small wooded area with no grazing at all.

Ashe Horse Dealer - Central Scotland - experiences

used to be Clip Clop, amongst other names. Various family members and friends do the advertising: Mark, Robbie, Emma. Definitely join the dodgy dealers pages on Facebook.

    Field woes: thoughts please.

The walls make a great windbreak, but the soil is actually lower in places along it. I used it as one side of my track but it’s very cut up and wet.

    Field woes: thoughts please.

Farmer wants the hay off the hill, so I dont have access till it’s cut. It’s not my hay. If I’m still there next year I’ll change my layout to use the hill, but need to get through this year with what I’ve got.

    Field woes: thoughts please.

Hi, I rent approx four acres of grazing, and moved there at the start of February. It’s a huge rectangle, walled on three sides, and fourth side has electric fencing to split it from the rest of the bigger area, under crops. So, when I moved there it was very wet, as February was just...

    She was huge though.

Feeding advice for a filly in foal, unplanned.

Ok, this is rather strange. I moved my horses to new grazing at the start of February. Due to the horrendous weather and no shelter, the horses didnt get rugs changed for two weeks. I thought the filly’s shape had changed, but couldn’t be sure, and changing rugs in a storm I couldn’t really look...

Feeling seriously fed up with this weathernow!

I live in the North East Scottish Highlands, and I could plant rice in my field. Luckily there is a lot of the field on a gentle slope, so the horses tend to stay up hill. It is still squelchy /frozen depending on the temperature, but at least there is minimal mud. I had to move from my last...

    Pregnant mares, foals and rugs

Like hens teeth up here, sadly. Farmers aren’t keen on renting to horse owners, and livery yards are few and far between. We have to do our best with what we have.

    Pregnant mares, foals and rugs

Lately we have had unseasonably mild weather, with temperatures not dropping below five most days. My pregnant mare has not needed a rug, which is great as is she is due any day now. (Unplanned) However, if it eventually turns cold I’d prefer to rug, but having a foal due I am wary. She lives...

Questions we will never know the answers for!!

Why do you always tip your bucket feed onto the mud?

Little update: she is now rather large! No sign of an udder yet, and no sinking of tail head. If seller is correct, the last time the colt was near her was January, so foaling is imminent. Vet is due today for routine stuff, so I will get her assessed again. On a positive note, we finally...

Feeding advice for a filly in foal, unplanned.

Little update. She has really gained weight lately, although this could also be because she is getting supplements and decent grazing. She didn’t winter well, and was still rather underweight when I got her last month. So it’s great to see her looking healthier. I’ve attached a picture...
