6 months difference...so angry and upset.

Please please report this, and keep all vets notes and photos, receipts etc. You need to cover your own backside if a member of public sees the horse and reports you. This was advice given to me by welfare charity after I had one return to my care in an emaciated state. With some good ole'...

Need to vent - sorry - farrier late again!

Mine knows I'm on a tight schedule and books me in first thing. He's usually about ten minutes early and has set up by the time i'm there. Used to use a farrier who would just dawdle along at his own speed, and i'm afraid he lost my business. When you have shoeings and trimmings to be done...

please show me chestnut foal pics that turned grey

I have one who was born bay roan with two white stockings and a blaze. Is now whiter than white with pink skin, barring her eyes which have black skin round them :)

    Cleaning too much tack!

Nope, one bridle and one saddle each. A couple of spare nosebands and stirrup leathers, numnahs etc. They only have two of each type of rug too. My tack room is tidy (ish) and I know where everything is. Hubby made me downsize my collection as it was taking over our lives :o

What would you do if you couldn't afford dental surgery for your horse?

I suppose it depends on how dear the mare is to you? You could get a credit card, or loan... I think I'd do that, but have never been in this position. Other than that it would probably be to have to PTS, if it was something that caused her pain and discomfort.

any one with horses at home and young children - is it manageable ?

you need to get two! One, an old reliable tiny pony who can be dragged round and brushed and be a pram on legs. And one of about 13hh you can ride. You'll need two anyway, company for each other ;) Don't feel guilty dragging children out in all weathers! My toddlers always came to the yard...

    Those with young children...

I've been turned down from livery yards before because we have small children :( I need to find a child friendly organic cake eating livery yard :p Practically speaking I can do yard duties with toddler in tow (I've had years of practice) and our horses are so laid back they're horizontal. But...

Yard meeting - useful or recipe for inevitable melt down?

I'd go, but I'd take vast quantities of vino and hand it out just for the entertainment of the cat fight that will surely follow :D I'm so so glad I'm not on a proper livery yard, I say it time and time again I would rather have no horse than go onto one of these yards!

Is your name in your horses passport?

only in one :o one I never bothered - wrote my name in but never sent it off. one isn't passported  and the last one needs a letter from previous owner to change over and I can't get hold of them, but my name's written in it.

Foals dying in the harsh weather please help.

This is true, but these animals won't meet a quick end. Starvation is a long painful death.

    Taking a baby to hoys/Olympia

In all honesty I'd leave baby at home. I NEVER take babies to shows or horse events. It's too much for them. Baby has no interest in sitting and watching the showing or shopping. Baby will want to have meals, nappy changes, naps and play regularly. And it is INCREDIBLY difficult to get round...

small pony saddle fit- any advice please

do you need a numnah? Cub saddles aren't the best of fits for small round ponies. Try one of the actual saddle pads, which are like a leather numnah with a girth and stirrup bars attached.

Horses vaccinated without owners knowledge or permission

I had a pony out on loan, and I had the passport in my possession for a few weeks as I'd moved house and needed to send it off to be changed. Loaner phoned me upset because the YO had had MY pony vaccinated for Flu without asking. And was charging the loaner for it. Pony had been vaccinated...

    Synthetic pony saddles

I'd be more inclined to go with something about 14 inch. The cub saddles are awful for even shetlands (I prefer to use a saddle 'pad' for tinies) as they either fit or they don't, and when they don't they cause children to tip forwards. It may be worth looking into seeing if your saddler...
