i think it is just general excitement i have tried schooling him before taking him out i have also alternated which way i go, i will have to try the dismounting option which will hopefully let him settle down before I proceed again, thanks for the advice guys!!:)

yeah he stands still fine in the school and is really well behaved in the stable, i think because he's having to wait in a more open space it must trigger something in his head in relation to his racing days, i will try that then thankyou for your advice :)
