I don't jump or do any XC anymore, but I do TREC..... and if I compete in a 'summer' event, where any of the PTV (obstacles) are 'fixed' (for example, a ditch, step, bank, log, slope etc), then I need to buy a new BP this year (and yes they do check the standard...) it means an extra £150 on top...
