Cant believe what he has done now

Hi! My horse is also rather challenging and I understand why you are not turning him out. Couldn't get mine out either so everyone smashed up the ice and put down hay etc down and everyone put their horses out, could you do that? My horse is not safe enough to lead so I waited until the road...

    SHARERS - a how much ?

We shared our old pony out to a few teenagers/kids over the many years we had him. We charged £15 per week and they had 3 or 4 days on him (or more if my daughter wasn't riding him and they wanted to - she rode for other people). I don't think half of the cost should be given to a sharer though...

    Daft Questions?

I can't get my horses out as there is a long sloped hill which is hard enough for me to walk up, never mind while leading a horse. Also, the fields are very icey as the snow has sort of iced over and it's so slippy. Someone on the yard turned her horse out on it and he has cut his leg open after...

Is it moral to sell on old/elderly horses?

I was originally going to say I wouldn't sell an older horse as I would be worried for its future for when it cannot be ridden etc. But then I realised by selling our younger pony, he will still be in the same situation when he is older. So I think as long as you can find them a good home where...

How are people keeping horses active with all the ice?

[ QUOTE ] Is there any way of clearing the ice? My boy is out 24/7 so the fields are just covered in snow so he's fine but i do live on a very very steep hill! Over christmas we resorted to attaching a rope line to the top lampost to help everyone lower/drag themselves up the road it was so...

How are people keeping horses active with all the ice?

[ QUOTE ] I think your best bet is just to try and walk him out in hand for half an hour a day, maybe you could make a track out of old hay or straw or even the muck out of your stable!!! (I know its messy, but it will do the job). I dont think its a good idea to try and move him at the moment...

How are people keeping horses active with all the ice?

[ QUOTE ] Essentially, I can't much. No school, no walker and the fields are ice traps. I chuck him out for half an hour everyday when I muck him out and my heart is in my mouth. He thinks it is a fun game to go to the top of the hill, trot half way down it, and then skid the rest of the way...

How are people keeping horses active with all the ice?

We have had to keep our horses in for the last few days as to turn them out we have to walk down a very icey lane which is on a slope. The school/field is completly frozen over and the roads aren't safe! How are people coping? The horse hasn't been ridden for over a week now and he doesn't cope...

    really annoyed about sharer situation

I know you said you don't want a young person just running around the fields with him, but I don't think you should discount younger people (16/17/18 kind of age). We used to have a pony and a few shareres from time to time and I have found that they are often more keen and reliable as they are...

    "Worried about daghters horse" Update!

[ QUOTE ] (1) 6 months is no time at all for a horse to settle with a new person, new routine, new yard, new horses and to establish itself in a pecking order. (2) After 10 years of horse ownership you are not an expert (I am certainly not!) (3) A 16 yo rider - however mature they may appear to...

    "Worried about daghters horse" Update!

[ QUOTE ] And horses are not machines, some are quirkier than others.. some will do one thing, another will do another, NONE is perfect. More or less like people. I am NOT boasting, and I am not crap trainer, infact, Im very competent, AND Im sure some of the most talented horses in the world...

    "Worried about daghters horse" Update!

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] QR The issue I have with all your supportive posts for having a horse put down, is that you are all making the decision on what someone has typed on a computer because they haven't been able to get on with a horse in a short space of time (is it less than a year?) Have any...

    "Worried about daghters horse" Update!

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] He also is a TB type, which someone told me would make it even harder to find a companion home. I mean I could put him for about £10 a week on my freinds land but I don't want to put them in danger. [/ QUOTE ] Also why would you seriously want to pay for a horse which at...
