I think you and I will always disagree on racing I'm Dun.
You are very anti whereas I sit somewhere in the middle. I don't bet - I am interested in the breeding side and also how the dominance of some bloodlines have been detrimental to TB soundness - going right back to Northern Dancer.
I'm...
There are people working in racing who do care but sadly don't have the influence. These are the dedicated grooms/work riders that look after 'their' 3 or more horses every day and go racing with them.
ITV always gives a condolence message to the groom of any horse that is lost and try to also...
IIRC saunas were standard fare on nearly all racecourse pre-covid. Covid period they were shut and since covid they have been removed from all (?) racecourses.
Jockeys are seen running the courses in sweatsuits pre-racing to achieve the same effects.
Racing weights have been increased for flat...
Watched that many times at the Met. Police horse show at Imber Court when I was young. Always impressive. We used to go every year until I moved away to uni. in the 1970s
They also had a Sword, Lance and Revolver competition between the mounted branches at that show along with inter-services...
In answer to a post above about syndicates - not everyone who watches racing bets. I don't - not even 10p on one of 'my' horses.
As regards the overuse of the whip and the suspensions imposed up thread - I think it is overdue for the whip rules between Irish racing and UK racing to be the same...

Mr. Vango has been a favourite but I feel that with his form this year that perhaps it was time to retire him - he no longer looked like he was enjoying racing. I just...
I would just like to put in a word for trainers of 'low value TBs' mentioned above. Not all trainers think the less of them. My OH and I have shares in a few 'low value' TBs in multi-owner syndicates (3000 in the syndicate so you 'own' about a tail hair).
We've been now to 9 different stable...
All the jockeys should be aware that the Grand National meeting attracts a lot of press coverage from non-racing and non-horsey publications. If nothing else their correspondents will be there to cover the 'atmosphere' and the 'fashion', but they WILL be there and for all 3 days.
It is a...
Bonny - it doesn't matter if the Mail story was accurate. All that will be seen by the non-racing/horsey readers is that a horse that had 'fallen' (it didn't) was 'whipped over the line to its death'.
There is already a thread in the Tack Room saying much the same as this based on a Racing Post...
