Mattes is thick wool but thinner skin so reasonably flexible. Le Mieux is thick hide/skin and the thinner ones have less dense hair too so not much in the way of shock absorption. Christ is not too thick and pretty flexible so a decent option. Fleeceworks have two options, wool (easy care) or...

My view has always been and is still do no harm. In my view if the hooves are good and can be worked unshod then brilliant but if the horse despite all best efforts is uncomfortable unshod then shoe. This is all with the proviso of a good farrier/trimmer, a poor one can do a great deal of harm.

Update : vet thinks likely to be a new or newly active splint :( going to confirm next Monday by nerve block and maybe x-ray. So other than rest any ideas? Thank you everyone :)
