Is it worth buying actual stud hole plugs or has anyone found a better alternative? Or not plugging at all - will be a day or two anyway until I can put them in?

That's exactly what my horse was on over winter as when I got him he was very skinny! It slowly built him up, but the spring grass coming through really made the difference; he wasn't so keen on haylage much preferred the grass! He's now on one feed of conditioning cubes, chaff and balancer a day.
He had x-ray's today - they're not awful but his has some callos bone and a lot of soft tissue. Any idea what could have brought this on suddenly? Bruising from concussion I guess as been riding him on roads a lot over the weekend.
Anyway, six weeks of box rest (well - a pen in his field) and...
