I have no idea but I think my lad was trying to give it a try hahaha ... I came up to the yard to this the other day! it was when that Storm hit so goodness knows what scared him!
absolutely nothing! well... besides being a well mannered young horse or his mum or one of the 2 other older horses would come and get him! Having been the only gelding in a field of mares for his entire life he knows to respect the ladies ... geldings on the other hand he will happily...
I think with it being a low key yard show it really wouldn't hurt. With him being young it isn't expected of them to go in an outline and to be consistent. If you speak to the judge beforehand you can always walk it if you find he is struggling a little.
It's only going to take you 2 or 3 mins...
Decent rugs are too expensive to just throw away if they get ripped- patches all the way! :D
I just paid £22 for a turnout to be washed, reproofed and have a small repair (patch)
5 horses on the yard i'm on and they're out 9 hours monday-thursday 7 hours friday-sunday one of the fields is wrecked but the fatties are on it as the other 2 fields are full of grass. One has been rested for about 4 months so that'll have mine and the YO's on later when they've finished...
Free!
I got given my TB semi wild out of a field because my old one died suddenly and his previous owners we ready to let one move on after the death of their daughter. I couldn't believe it when they told me I could have him! He is such a quick learner and was re-halter broken very quickly...
As others have said, just do what feels right at the time. Once the grass has been eaten off then you'll have to provide them with some hay/hayledge.
RE; tbs must be kept in: I got given my lad off a family friend and prior to coming to me (he is now 5) he has spent his life living out 24/7...
negatives:
If you go down it might already have been ridden
have to work round someone elses routine
gives your horse bad habits
gets fed when and what someone else wants
tack gets lost/broken
Positives:
Cheaper than full livery
get bedding/hay/feed (in most cases) included
horse gets exercised...
One of my Aunts horses lived to the grand old age of 45 :) Had to be pts in the end but she lived a really happy life .. was only retired for 6 years as she enjoyed working and her first attempt at retiring her she got very depressed :) The mare was a riding school horse and taught kids to ride-...
You've expressed your concerns and that is all you can do. At the end of the day its their horse and they get to choose what they want to do with it, so no one else can really butt in except their instructor/family
I can't watch it, I flicked onto a repeat the other morning and I saw the stables and noticed it was leahurst and burst into tears.. My boy was put down there on the 28th July this year- went in as a suspected colic, they half diagnosed him with Grass sickness (couldn't be sure as he had...
