Stud recommendations for foaling mare - Surrey / Sussex

Hi, Brendon Stud can't take mares in that early. Try Graffam Stud, one of the Arundel stud vets lives on site.

What your opinion on the breeding crisis in the UK

I totally agree with Janet George, re cheap foreign imports. The old saying of you get what you pay for is true. I buy horses from the continent, for every one I buy, there is probably 3 or 4 that I have had vetted and they have failed the vetting. I then see this horse in the UK being...

    Showjumping Stallion...

Thanks for recommendations guys! Caretino Glory - most of his offspring go in a rubber snaffle, as he does! He's on brendonstud.com and lots of pics on our fb page!

    Stallion show Hartpury College

I would've loved to have taken some `Caretino Glory progeny, but with 6 stallions entered, progeny was a step too far this close to Christmas!! Everyone welcome to see him and the younger boys!!

    Lethal inection

Have you tried American clogs on her re lami? One of my broodmares was totally crippled after foaling this year, if she hadn't had a foal on her she would very possibly not be here. She wore the clogs for 3 months and is now happily grazing in the field. She's 19 years young!

    name change on passport....

I always understood you can't change anything in a passport. Goodness they'll be changing markings soon...... As a breeder I think this is appalling if correct.

Those with stallions...what age did you first breed with them?

Depends on each individual stallion. Some we use at 2, some at 3, some not till they're 5!

    Foal Blood Transfusion

I'd do the plasma, I've had a couple that have been borderline in the past, I've lived to regret it from the point of view of them staying weak horses for several years, I'm sure the extra feed costs more in the end. I've never had one have a reaction to plasma.

To Royal Leisure/Pyecombe from Hampshire/Surrey border

Just lots of roundabouts!! I drive big truck to Crofton that route, if I take one to Liphook, I'd go M25/A3 as best ride for horses. We're hour and half from Crofton if traffic good.

Chilled Semen - must be same day??

I usually send out 2 syringes in one dose, but all semen should be AI'd asap after receiving it. If mare has not ovulated then I would ship another dose or if mare at stud just go again with fresh semen!!

Chilled Semen - must be same day??

I've had a few that are only good with fresh, as Sally says some just don't do chilling! But I agree stallion owner should have said. I would also add that the best place for ANY semen to live is in the mare, so all semen from a consignment should be Inseminated ASAP, not split in half.
