I think the group is fairly anti-spraying. As trying to develop a healthy and diverse grass sward. And believes if you mulch bare ground with waste hay, and droppings you can lessen weeds getting in.
I think it might be asking for your friend that is the issue. I would ask for yourself, do that regularly for a period of time, then maybe ask about including the friend, initially when you are present only. And build from there.
Thank you. Yes, I did wonder about trying to get an old ride on lawnmower or similar so I could harrow it, to fix the unlevelness. But the current deep wont improve without rain.

It's tricky I do school a bit less in summer, as current outdoor arena I hack too gets deep too, unless being watered. Though the small indoor remains fine to school / do groundwork in. I box out more for lessons / better surface hire in summer. But my current arena hire is pretty expensive...
It is probably a 5-8 minute drive, but I dont think by the time I have loaded, unloaded, de-imbolised the lorry, opened and closed the yard front gate, parked it twice, skipped out the inevitable dropping, it would be much quicker.
And the yard I use arenas at do typically change for lorry...
