Thank you very much :) working pupil is a good idea I think although I'm not entirely sure what that is - is it like being an apprentice and learning on the job??
update I've just had a search around, it sounds kind of ideal for me as I'd never go to a big yard expecting to ride top class...
Thank you!
The degree I was going to was equine performance which is like management of the performance horse, I'm just a bit worried the way they teach it is to a different standard to the yards I want to work on so I would pick up all those habits and maybe employers would think I'm not ready...
Hello all,
I am in a bit of a pickle. I'm a bit confused and I haven't really recieved all the advice I'd like on this issue but I am frightfully confused as to whether university is the best option for me.
My goal in life is to become either a head groom or a competition groom for a 3*...
Does anyone know of some decent yard boots I can wear to muck out/do the yard in etc as well as ride in? The last few pairs I've had have all broken after a couple of months, would be nice to have some decent general puprpose kind of boots that last!!
Thanks in advance.
I can't be the only one that loves browsing the sales even if I'm not particularly looking at buying!!
I found the most lovely horse for sale, almost makes me want another one...
I follow the showjumping!! my recent favourites are Irish riders Bertram Allen and Billy Twomey - both lovely lovely lads and are so kind to their horses. (also IRISH!!)
Used to love Ben Maher when I was younger but was shocked to hear so many bad things about the way he treats his horses...
Love him!! He is so gorgeous!!
I think he'd make a lovely police horse - he has a nice face and a kind eye, and with breeding like that he's going to be massive!! :O Shame about the pricing of him though - really wish horses weren't so cheap to buy, in a weird way...
We have 2 TB's at my stud, a 22 year old ex-racer and a 6 year old mare.
The older gelding is the sweetest and we let the children groom and ride him when they come round. He's one of the kindest horses we have and has all the patience in the world - he is not thouroughbred-y at all!! However...
Hello all!
I was wondering what kind of insurance I would need if I were to be a freelance groom? I volunteer at my local stud farm now and have no insurance whatsoever (daft, I know, but I'm leaving after Christmas). This will be the first time I get insurance, I am 17 years old and I do...
Thank you so much :)
My head girl's advised me against uni too - and told me that practical experience is far more useful to employers nowadays. I'm pretty dead set on horses being my career and although grooms don't earn as much money it's the most hands on, and that's the kind of job I want...
Thank you! To be fair I've learnt way more from practical experience and just being thrown into working on different yards than I ever have from a textbook - and I'm not sure if a degree is valued more than lots of experience by employers :/
Thank you so much :)
