    Bumble Bee Nest in stable

Hi, has anyone experience of a bumble bee nest? its in the eaves of the stable and bees can fly in and out uninterrupted, horse is indifferent to them, but I am still pretty worried. I am really reluctant to do anything which will disturb the nest or kill the bees, but horse will need a stable...

    Help me with spooking!

I think you have to strip the anxiety from the situation. She may be spooking because she has worked out it gets her out of work but every thing you do which us 'punishing' or stressful just reinforces her sense there is just cause for her reaction. I do lunge but instead of getting after her in...

    Help me with spooking!

I think you have to do two things. Firstly improve your relationship so that she trusts your judgement and I think hacking alone and ground work are great ways to do that. I find developing a routine to release tension and ideally lower the head is also important. With my spooky gelding he is...

    Lusitano as an allrounder

Rusty (pictured) is pb lusitano, but looks the spitting image of his Grandsire who is Luso. We all love him, he is the friendliest most human horse imaginable and loves attention of any kind. He is incredibly smart, v tuned in to his rider and so will pick up on nerves and will learn bad habits...

    'strange' breed combination?

I think Rusty is the most unusual breeding - ISH x Lusitano x arab. In so many respects he is the most wonderful horse, smart, friendly, kind and energetic. He is also super hot, a worrywort, gets in a tizz & can be really silly and never ever forgets anything you do wrong. he also has odd &...

Saddle Fitting - What am I missing?

I have had 6 saddlers & spent about 5k trying to get a saddle which fits R and which I can jump in and have now given up. He is in the saddle I started with which is an ancient Ideal. which has fitted my last 3 horses, but which I cant jump him in. I conclude I must do the saddle fitting course...

Anyone feel like giving up? After multiple horses lame

I have had my 2 most recent horses break. The 1st with KS & current has hock, coffin joint and back problems - he is being worked till the medication stops working. they are both the sort of breeding you would expect to keep going for ever, horse 1 was ISH x Connie, current horse is...

How often do you fall off?

I never used to fall off. Until quite recently with Sienna, I only ever fell off 3 times in 20 odd years. My last horse was a nappy shit & I fell off him reasonably regularly which was less than ideal. Rusty is the whippiest thing and I fall off him about twice a month when we are competing...

How much do you pay for your rented land/stables?

I've rented a few small yards. Generally it is in line with £20/£25 pw p horse or thereabouts, though that is on the outskirts of Bristol. stable grazing & minimal facilities, usualy maintenance done & no other bills.

How much hay have you stocked up on for this winter?

I think prices will skyrocket. We had one good cut, but no second cut, thats never happened. Farmer has been feeding this years hay to the cattle since August. I stockpiled for the first time ever & bought 10 heston bales which should last me 5 months.

    Welsh section D experiences?

I love them and have been debating getting a PB youngster. My favourites are actually C's they are the best of all worlds in terms of temparaments and conformation, and one of my favourite ever animals was a C stallion I used to show, who was wonderful. Too small for me now though. I worry...
